Tribology of ZrC Coatings and Spherical Tips Acquired with Extraordinarily Stiff, Metal Atomic Force Microscopy Probes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this research, ZrC coatings are evaluated against various counterprobes at the microscale using novel super‐stiff atomic force microscopy cantilevers. The chemical composition of the coating is shown to be an important factor influencing coating hardness and Young's modulus, while surface roughness, counterprobe hardness, and surface energy are the ...

On Durability of SHCC

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Concrete Technology, 2010
Strain-hardening cement-based composites (SHCC) resist increased tensile stress after first crack formation, over a significant range of tensile strain. This increased strength and strain capacity is achieved by effective crack bridging by fibres, across multiple cracks of widths in the micro-range.

High‐Temperature Oxidation of the CrFeNi Medium‐Entropy Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The oxidation behavior of equiatomic CrFeNi MEA is a key issue that determines this material's suitability for high‐temperature application. The understanding of long‐term behavior is even more crucial than short‐term corrosion effects. The alloy is exposed to synthetic air at 1000, 1050, and 1100 °C for 24, 100, and 1000 h and systematically compared ...

Taxiing Route Planning for Aircraft on Airport Surface Considering Conflicts With Ground Service Vehicles

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation
The density and complexity of airport surface traffic increase significantly with the expansion of hub airports. Conflicts may occur due to the concentration of aircraft and ground service vehicle (GSV) movements, leading to safety and congestion issues.

The Effect of Thickness, Build Orientation, and Loading Rate on the Tensile and Compressive Properties of Selective Laser Sintering Polyamide 12 Specimens

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article examines how build orientation, thickness, and loading rate affect the tensile and compressive properties of LS‐manufactured polyamide 12 12 parts. Through over 120 experiments, it reveals strong ductility anisotropy in tension, minimal compressive sensitivity, and significant thickness and strain rate dependencies.
