ASSUME that a supplier owns the total stock of a completely durable good. At what price will he sell it? To take a concrete example, assume that one person owns all the land in the United States and, to simplify the analysis, that all land is of uniform quality. Assume also that the landowner is not able to work the land himself, that ownership of land

The Meaning of Durability and Durability Prediction
1980The concept of durability is not well defined. The term durability is often used to imply the possession of qualities associated with long-life. In some standards for building components, it is nonquantitative and implies that design requirements are likely to be exceeded for the design service life or some other specified period.

On the durability of non-durable goods
Economics Letters, 1992Abstract Using both monthly and quarterly data, this paper shows that the durability rates of non-durable goods and services are significantly greater than zero, and in line with the prediction of the theory. The common practice of testing consumption and consumption-related models with the National Income and Product Account category of non-durables

For latency-critical transactional applications, durability is often what limits performance. That is, executing transactions is fast, but guaranteeing that they are durable is slow. As a result, most of each transaction's latency is attributable to durability.

On advertising durability and product durability
Applied Economics Letters, 2007This paper uses a simple two-period model to examine the behaviour of a monopolist who produces a durable good and engages in advertising that is also somewhat durable. It is found that changes in product durability and advertising durability have opposite effects on profit-maximizing output and advertising. Policy implications for antitrust and health

Monopoly Power and the Durability of Durable Goods
Southern Economic Journal, 1962The inadequacy of mere price-quantity analysis was clearly pointed out by Edward H. Chamberlin several years ago.' Professor Chamberlin focused attention upon the fact that, in spite of the generally accepted procedure of assuming products to be given while studying price quantity relationships, "products are actually the most volatile things in the ...

ON THE TAXATION OF DURABLE GOODS [PDF]
AbstractThis article proposes a dynamic Mirrleesian theory of commodity taxation in the presence of durable goods. A uniform taxation across all goods is suboptimal even when the consumption preferences are separable from labor. If the consumption utility function is strictly concave and durable stocks are adjustable without friction, durable ...
