Dust emission in powder handling: Free falling particle plume characterisation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Dust generation during solids handling, principally from the free falling of bulk materials and their impact on stockpiles, can be a health threat for operators and a cause of dust explosions.

Multivariate Analysis of Hematological Stress Biomarkers and Welfare Domains in Organic and Intensive Pig Farming in Italy: A Pilot Study

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Intensive or organic farming systems may expose pigs to management or environmental challenges. Our preliminary results concluded that organic farming might enhance adaptive immune function, showing that improvements in welfare can translate into measurable immunological benefits, based on the correlation between welfare assessment and physiological ...

Highly-Effective Purification of Air on the Fibrous Filtering Nozzles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A series of experiments by air purification on fibrous filtering nozzles was made. It is experimentally shown that the fibrous filter can operate in a wide rate range. The degree of trapping of fine aerosols of glass was 99 % at a linear rate of 0.01 m/s.

Hidden No More: Spotlight on Tidal Disruption Events in Active Galactic Nuclei

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tidal disruption events (TDEs) are typically discovered in previously quiescent galaxies. However, earlier studies have revealed a handful of TDEs occurring in pre‐existing active galactic nuclei (AGN). We discuss AT2019aalc, a promising TDE candidate in an AGN, and compare it to similar sources.

Plasmakristall‐4 Experiment: 10 Years of Operation in Orbit

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plasmakristall‐4 (PK‐4) is a microgravity complex plasma laboratory operated for 10 years on board the International Space Station. Its main purpose is the particle‐resolved investigation of generic condensed matter phenomena using strongly coupled suspensions of microparticles immersed in low‐pressure gas‐discharge plasmas.

The dusty museum

open access: yesNordisk Museologi, 1970
Dust is a significant problem for museums – not only from the point of view of conservation, but also because it has a negative effect on the museum’s image. In this paper, I analyse the cultural connotations of museum dust: Why is dust in a museum so appalling, and, consequently, what do people really mean by the word pair dusty museum?
