Speech sound development in typically developing 2-7-year-old Dutch-speaking children:A normative cross-sectional study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Background: Dutch is a West-Germanic language spoken natively by around 24 million speakers. Although studies on typical Dutch speech sound development have been conducted, norms for phonetic and phonological characteristics of typical development in a ...

Associations of Lifestyle‐Related Factors and Psoriatic Arthritis Disease Activity: The Dutch South West Psoriatic Arthritis Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This study aims to investigate lifestyle‐related factors in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and their association with disease activity measurements. Methods This multicenter cohort included 938 patients who were newly diagnosed with PsA between 2013 and 2023.

Constraints of vowels and consonants on lexical selection : cross-linguistic comparisons

open access: yes, 2000
Languages differ in the constitution of their phonemic repertoire and in the relative distinctiveness of phonemes within the repertoire. In the present study, we asked whether such differences constrain spoken-word recognition, via two word ...

Hoeveel weten NT2-leerders over de gemarkeerde status van de Nederlandse leenfonemen?

open access: yesBrünner Beiträge zur Germanistik und Nordistik, 2016
It is well-known that borrowed words are often recognisable for native speakers due to certain non-native characteristics. Loan phonemes may also function as such nonnativeness markers, which means that native speakers are aware of the peripheral status ...

Measurement and optimisation of the perceptual equivalence of the Dutch consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) word lists using synthetic speech and list pairs

open access: yesInternational Journal of Audiology
(1) to determine whether the standard Dutch word lists for speech audiometry are equally intelligible in normal-hearing listeners (Experiment 1), (2) to investigate whether synthetic speech can be used to create word lists (Experiment 1) and (3) to determine whether the list effect found in Experiment 1 can be reduced by combining two lists into pairs (

Nanoparticle Shape Dictates Catalytic Performance in Selective Hydrogenation of Butadiene Over Au‐Pd Core‐Shell Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the exposed crystal facet of shape‐controlled Au‐Pd core‐shell catalysts though colloidal synthesis enhances their catalytic performance in the industrially relevant selective hydrogenation of butadiene. ABSTRACT Selective hydrogenation of butadiene is a critical step in purification of alkene feedstocks for polymer production and is ...

Orbital Geometry‐Governed Response of Pressure‐Tunable Quantum Defects in hBN

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Defects in hBN act as ultrasensitive quantum manometers when the energy of the intradefect optical transitions is modified by lattice compression. The orbital geometry of the electron wave functions governs how electron hopping and Coulomb interactions react uniquely to the reduction of the van der Waals gap and in‐plane compression, leading to robust ...

Hello, who is this?: The relationship between linguistic and speaker-dependent information in the acoustics of consonants

open access: yes, 2023
This dissertation investigates the relationship between linguistic factors and speaker-dependent information in speech sounds, with a particular focus on the Dutch language and on fricative and nasal consonants. Using spontaneous telephone speech corpora,

Exciton Binding Energy of Phosphorescent Emitter Molecules in Organic Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Energy level alignment is key to efficient OLED design, yet determining LUMO energies remains challenging. A methodology based on field‐induced dissociation and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations is presented to extract LUMO energies of iridium‐based phosphorescent emitters from their exciton binding energy.
