Initial size structure of natural phytoplankton communities determines the response to Daphnia diel vertical migration

open access: yesJournal of Limnology, 2012
Diel vertical migration (DVM) is a common behavior of many pelagic herbivorous zooplankton species in response to predation pressure. It is characterized by a twice daily habitat shift of the zooplankton species: staying in the epilimnion only during ...

Interspecific differences in the Diel Vertical Migration of Marine Copepods : the Implications of size, color, and morphology

open access: yes, 1994
Samples collected by continuous plankton recorders (CPRs) between 1948 and 1992 were used to describe the diel vertical migration (DVM) behavior of 41 copepod taxa in the northeast Atlantic between 45 and 55?N and 11 and 31?W.

Self‐Powered Flexible Triboelectric‐Gated Ion‐Gel Transistor for Neuromorphic Tactile Sensing and Human Activity Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A fully flexible ion‐gel‐gated graphene‐channel transistor driven by a triboelectric nanogenerator enables self‐powered tactile sensing and synaptic learning. Mimicking spike‐rate‐dependent plasticity, the device exhibits frequency‐selective potentiation and depression, supporting rate‐coded neuromorphic computation even under flex.

Bovine Genital Campylobacteriosis

open access: yesEDIS, 2007
VM-166, a 3-page fact sheet by M.B. Irsik, DVM, MAB and J.K. Shearer, DVM, MS, describes this venereal disease of cattle formerly known as vibriosis, clinical findings and epidemiology, how to determine if there is a campylobacter problem in a herd, and ...

Stokes' theorem, volume growth and parabolicity

open access: yes, 2011
We present some new Stokes' type theorems on complete non-compact manifolds that extend, in different directions, previous work by Gaffney and Karp and also the so called Kelvin-Nevanlinna-Royden criterion for (p-)parabolicity. Applications to comparison

Expected volume and Euler characteristic of random submanifolds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In a closed manifold of positive dimension $n$, we estimate the expected volume and Euler characteristic for random submanifolds of codimension $r\in \{1,...,n\}$ in two different settings.

Optofluidic Raman Analysis and Capacity Recovery in Li‐ion Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Operando Raman spectroscopy is used to monitor the degradation of commercial Li‐ion cells. Using a microfluidic access port, small amounts of electrolyte are sampled into a hollow‐core optical fibre, where fibre‐enhanced Raman analysis reveals Li+ solvation changes and solvent evolution.

Cationic mRNA Lipid Nanoparticles for Ex Vivo NanoCAR‐T Cell Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study compares charge‑neutral and cationic lipidnanoparticles (LNPs) for ex vivo mRNA delivery to T cells, revealing distinctdependencies on medium composition and T cell activation. Where conventional LNPs benefit from ApoE‐dependent T cell targeting, cationic DOTAP‑modified LNPs mediate unspecific charge‑dependent transfection.

Asymptotic normality of linear statistics of zeros of random polynomials

open access: yes, 2016
In this note, we prove a central limit theorem for smooth linear statistics of zeros of random polynomials which are linear combinations of orthogonal polynomials with iid standard complex Gaussian coefficients.

Risk Factors for Small‐for‐Size Syndrome Grade B/C After Simultaneous Splenectomy in Adult Living‐Donor Liver Transplantation

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
In a single‐center cohort of 577 adult LDLT recipients who underwent simultaneous splenectomy, clinically significant SFSS grade B/C (ILTS‐iLDLT‐LTSI 2023) occurred in 18.2% and was associated with inferior graft survival. Multivariate analysis identified MELD ≥ 30, NLR ≥ 4.5, and donor age ≥ 50 years as independent risk factors, which risk rising ...
