Demência resultante de malformação vascular dural.

open access: yesActa Médica Portuguesa, 2001
A case of dementia can result from encephalopathy caused by venous hypertension, produced by a dural vascular malformation (DVM). The authors describe one tentorial DVM with sinusal venous drainage and retrograde reflux to the cerebral veins (type II ...

Shock-induced melting of MgSiO_3 perovskite and implications for melts in Earth's lowermost mantle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
New shock wave equation of state (EOS) data for enstatite and MgSiO_3 glass constrain the density change upon melting of Mg-silicate perovskite up to 200 GPa. The melt becomes denser than perovskite near the base of Earth's lower mantle.

Survey of applications of discrete vortex method in civil engineering.

open access: yesBudownictwo i Architektura, 2009
This paper includes an introduction to Discrete Vortex Method (DVM) and its comparison with other methods of computer fluid dynamics. In its second part it focuses on the most important applications of DVM from the civil engineering point of view.

Mono‐dimensional, two‐dimensional and Doppler echocardiographic measurements in healthy Standardbred neonatal foals in the first 5 days of life

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Bodyweight, age and breed influence the echocardiographic assessment of foals. There are no echocardiographic studies in Standardbred neonatal foals. Objectives To describe echocardiographic values for selected variables, evaluate intra‐ and inter‐observer variability and assess cardiac changes in the first 5 days of life in healthy

Information seeking and evaluation: a multi-institutional survey of veterinary students

open access: yesJournal of the Medical Library Association, 2019
Objective: To practice evidence-based medicine, clinicians must be competent in information literacy (IL). Few studies acknowledge the critical role that reading strategies play in IL instruction and assessment of health professional students.

Dog attacks on wild desert tortoises: A risk model

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Domestic dogs attack and severely injure wild desert tortoises at the urban and ex‐urban interface with deserts. Severe trauma to tortoises increased 4 times to shell and limbs and 16.5 times to the gular horn over the decades between the 1970s and 2000s. Tortoises were at exponential risk of severe trauma when living within 12 km of settlements, towns,

Some calibrated surfaces in manifolds with density

open access: yes, 2010
Hyperplanes, hyperspheres and hypercylinders in $\Bbb R^n$ with suitable densities are proved to be weighted minimizing by a calibration argument. Also calibration method is used to prove a weighted minimal hypersurface is weighted area-minimizing ...

Advances and Current Progress of Dopant Engineering on All‐Inorganic Halide Perovskites Toward High‐Performance Scintillating Materials

open access: yesMetalMat, EarlyView.
This review provides the latest advancement on lead‐free all‐inorganic perovskites, covering fundamental aspects, emerging synthetic routes, and scintillation properties. We highlight the dopant engineering strategy to favor the formation and efficient radiative recombination of self‐trapped excitons and the future development direction for the next ...

Migration of Net Phytoplankton and Zooplankton in Mendum’s Pond, New Hampshire [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The study examines the vertical distribution and migratory behavior of net phytoplankton and zooplankton of Mendum’s Pond in Barrington, N.H. The cyanobacteria, Microcystis and Aphanocapsa were the dominant net phytoplankton in this lake.

Open letter: The need for a site‐based biodiversity standard measuring and certifying impacts from nature‐based projects

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Despite growing investment in restoration, weak accountability and poor biodiversity monitoring mean many projects fail to achieve ecological recovery. The Global Biodiversity Standard (TGBS) offers a practical way to ensure that restoration finance delivers measurable gains for nature.
