The chemical content of a sample of dwarf irregular galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2002
We present abundances of neon, nitrogen and oxygen of some nearby dwarf irregular galaxies. The elemental abundances are retrieved from long-slit spectroscopy of H ii regions in the objects. The abundances are found to be sub-solar in all cases. For the dwarf irregular galaxy DDO 190 the abundances reported in this work are the rst ever published.

The JWST Resolved Stellar Populations Early Release Science Program. VIII. The Spatially Resolved Star Formation History of WLM

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Radial stellar population gradients within dwarf galaxies provide a promising avenue for disentangling the drivers of galaxy evolution, including environment. Within the Local Volume, radial stellar age gradient slopes correlate with interaction history,

A study of the HI and optical properties of Low Surface Brightness galaxies: spirals, dwarfs and irregulars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We present a study of the HI and optical properties of nearby ($z$ $\le$ 0.1) Low Surface Brightness galaxies (LSBGs). We started with a literature sample of $\sim$900 LSBGs and divided them into three morphological classes: spirals, irregulars and dwarfs.

Oxygen Abundance Throughout the Dwarf Starburst Galaxy IC 10

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Measurements of oxygen abundance throughout galaxies provide insight to the formation histories and ongoing processes. Here we present a study of the gas-phase oxygen abundance in the H ii regions and diffuse gas of the nearby starburst dwarf galaxy, IC ...

The Westerbork HI Survey of Spiral and Irregular Galaxies II. R-Band Surface Photometry of Late-type Dwarf Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
R-band surface photometry is presented for 171 late-type dwarf and irregular galaxies. For a subsample of 46 galaxies B-band photometry is presented as well. We present surface brightness profiles as well as isophotal and photometric parameters including magnitudes, diameters and central surface brightnesses.

A Tale of Three Dwarfs: Cluster-based Star Formation Histories of Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a new study of the cluster populations in the blue compact dwarf galaxies (BCD) ESO185-IG13, ESO338-IG04, and Haro11, based on new and archival high-resolution images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, and the first to probe the populations ...

OUTSIDE–IN SHRINKING OF THE STAR-FORMING DISK OF DWARF IRREGULAR GALAXIES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We have studied multi-band surface brightness profiles of a representative sample of 34 nearby dwarf irregular galaxies. Our data include Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) FUV/NUV, UBV, and Hα and Spitzer 3.6 μm images.

Discovery of Metal-poor and Distant Pre–Main Sequence Candidates in WLM with JWST

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We present the discovery of 12 metal-poor and distant pre–main sequence (PMS) candidates in the dwarf irregular galaxy Wolf–Lundmark–Melotte ∼968 kpc away, at a present-day metallicity of [Fe/H] ∼ –0.9.

Metal-poor Galaxies in the Local Universe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A galaxy's mean metallicity is usually closely correlated with its luminosity and mass. Consequently the most metal-poor galaxies in the local universe are dwarf galaxies. Blue compact dwarfs and tidal dwarfs tend to deviate from the metallicity-luminosity relation by being too metal-poor or too metal-rich for their luminosity, respectively.

The Local Ultraviolet to Infrared Treasury. I. Survey Overview of the Broadband Imaging

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
The Local Ultraviolet to Infrared Treasury (LUVIT) is a Hubble Space Telescope program that combines newly acquired data in the near-ultraviolet (NUV), optical, and near-infrared (NIR) with archival optical and NIR imaging to produce multiband ...
