Fraction of Stars in Clusters for the LEGUS Dwarf Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
We study the young star cluster populations in 23 dwarf and irregular galaxies observed by the HST Legacy ExtraGalactic Ultraviolet Survey (LEGUS), and examine relationships between the ensemble properties of the cluster populations and those of their ...

Witnessing a Transformation to Blue-cored Dwarf Early-type Galaxies in Filaments and the Cluster Outskirts: Gas-phase Abundances and Internal Kinematics Perspectives

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The presence of transitional dwarf galaxies in filaments and cluster outskirts may be closely related to preprocessing in the filament; however, the underlying mechanism is not yet comprehensively understood.

UGC 7639: A Dwarf Galaxy in the Canes Venatici I Cloud

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
We want to get insight into the formation mechanism and the evolution of UGC 7639, a dwarf galaxy in the Canes Venatici I Cloud (CVnIC). We used archival multiwavelength data to constrain its global properties. Ultraviolet images show that UGC 7639 inner regions are composed mostly by young stellar populations.

Pavo: Discovery of a Star-forming Dwarf Galaxy Just Outside the Local Group

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
We report the discovery of Pavo, a faint ( M _V = −10.0), star-forming, irregular, and extremely isolated dwarf galaxy at D ≈ 2 Mpc. Pavo was identified in Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey imaging via a novel approach that combines low surface brightness

Formation of dwarf ellipticals and dwarf irregular galaxies by interaction of giant galaxies under environmental influence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A model is proposed for the formation of gas-rich dwarf irregular galaxies and gas-poor, rotating dwarf elliptical galaxies following the interaction between two giant galaxies as a function of space density. The formation of dwarf galaxies is considered to depend on a random variable, the tidal index theta, an environmental parameter defined by ...

Chemical and Photometric Evolution Models for Disk, Irregular, and Low Mass Galaxies

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
We summarize the updated set of multiphase chemical evolution models performed with 44 theoretical radial mass initial distributions and 10 possible values of efficiencies to form molecular clouds and stars. We present the results about the infall rate histories, the formation of the disk, and the evolution of the radial distributions of diffuse and ...

HST FUV Spectroscopy of Super Star Cluster A in the Green Pea Analog Mrk 71: Revealing the Presence of Very Massive Stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Mrk 71 is a low-metallicity ( Z = 0.16 Z _☉ ) starburst region in the local dwarf galaxy NGC 2366, hosting two super star clusters (SSCs A and B), and it is recognized as a Green Pea (GP) analog with SSC A responsible for the GP properties.

The Unique Structural Parameters of the Underlying Host Galaxies in Blue Compact Dwarfs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The nature of possible evolutionary pathways between various types of dwarf galaxies is still not fully understood. Blue compact dwarf galaxies (BCDs) provide a unique window into dwarf galaxy formation and evolution and are often thought of as an evolutionary stage between different classes of dwarf galaxies. In this study we use deep optical and near-

Morphological Evolution of Dwarf Galaxies in the Local Group [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The dwarf galaxies of the Local Group can be separated in three morphological groups: irregular, elliptical and spheroidal. As in the large galaxy clusters, there seems to be a morphology-position relationship: irregular galaxies are preferentially found in the outskirts (low density regions) of the Local Group, whereas dwarf ellipticals and ...

Diffuse Ionized Gas in the Dwarf Irregular Galaxy DDO 53 [PDF]

open access: yesAstron.J.134:1447-1458,2007, 2007
The spectral characteristics throughout the dwarf irregular galaxy DDO 53 are studied. The results are very similar to those for other irregular galaxies: high excitation and low values of the [SII]/Halpha ratio. The most likely ionization source is photon leakage from the classical HII regions, without any other source, although the interstellar ...
