Plant functional traits shape the provision of ecosystem services to Indigenous communities in western Amazonia

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 12, Page 3313-3329, December 2025.
Abstract Context. Exploring how Indigenous People interact with plants through their functional traits allows us to understand the ecological bases of plant selection. Functional traits can help explain why certain plants are consistently chosen for specific purposes across diverse cultural contexts.

Dwarf Nova Outbursts and Superoutbursts [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1996
Dwarf nova outbursts provide an almost unique opportunity of getting an insight into the nature of viscosity in accretion disks or, within the α- disk approach, of putting some constraints on α. In particular, the strong dependence of the viscous time-scale on viscosity itself permits us to estimate a almost directly from the observed time-scales.

A J-band detection of the donor star in the dwarf nova OY Carinae and an optical detection of its ‘iron curtain’ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Purely photometric models can be used to determine the binary parameters of eclipsing cataclysmic variables (CVs) with a high degree of precision. However, the photometric method relies on a number of assumptions, and to date there have been very few ...

Micro Gondwana: soil and litter mesofauna in the subalpine and alpine of North‐West Nelson, southern New Zealand

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Zoology, Volume 52, Issue 5, Page 944-966, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Alpine ecosystems are vulnerable to the warming climate, yet alpine soil mesofauna remains the less studied part of NZ biodiversity. Here we present a survey of soil mesofauna communities of three mountain peaks in the Nelson‐Tasman and Marlborough regions of the South Island of New Zealand.

Application of Total Variation Minimization to Doppler Tomography

open access: yesActa Polytechnica CTU Proceedings, 2015
We have developed a new model of the Doppler tomography using total variation minimization (DTTVM). We demonstrated that this method can reconstruct localized and non-axisymmetric profiles possibly having sharp edges in the Doppler map.

Hubble space telescope STIS spectroscopy of the peculiar nova-like variables BK Lyn, V751 Cygni, and V380 Oph [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We obtained Hubble STIS spectra of three nova-like variables: V751 Cygni, V380 Oph, and—the only confirmed nova-like variable known to be below the period gap—BK Lyn.

QUIESCENT SUPERHUMPS DETECTED IN THE DWARF NOVA V344 LYRAE BY KEPLER [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The timing capabilities and sensitivity of Kepler, NASA's observatory to find Earth-sized planets within the habitable zone of stars, are well matched to the timescales and amplitudes of accretion disk variability in cataclysmic variables.

Genomic Analysis of Hair Sheep From West/Central Africa Reveals Unique Genetic Diversity and Ancestral Links to Breed Formation in the Caribbean

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 24, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Cameroon Blackbelly sheep are a domestic breed of hair sheep from West/Central Africa. They are popular with small‐holder farmers in Cameroon as they are highly resilient to local environmental challenges and are prolific a‐seasonal breeders.

OUTBURST CYCLE LENGTH VARIATIONS iN THE DWARF NOVA EM CYGNI

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2017
The cycle length of the dwarf nova EM Cyg undergoes season-to-season changes which may be interpreted by changes of the accretion rate caused by a solar-type activity of the secondary star. The mean brightness of EM Cyg varies with a cycle of ≈ 3000d and

High speed photometry of faint Cataclysmic Variables: IV. V356 Aql, Aqr1, FIRST J1023+0038, Ha 0242-2802, GI Mon, AO Oct, V972 Oph, SDSS 0155+00, SDSS 0233+00, SDSS 1240-01, SDSS 1556-00, SDSS 2050-05, FH Ser

open access: yes, 2004
We present results from high speed photometry of a further thirteen faint cataclysmic variables. V356 Aql (Nova Aql 1936) shows flare-like outbursts with recurrence time scales ~ 3000 s, but no coherent periodicities. Aqr1 is an intermediate polar with a
