Exploring the complexities of cooperative breeding: insights from African wild dog packs
Across 14 years of monitoring African wild dog packs in Savé Valley Conservancy, Zimbabwe, we found that younger and larger packs were significantly more likely to produce multiple litters, with second‐born pups showing higher survival. Pup survival also increased with pack size, rainfall, and alpha female age, highlighting the adaptive benefits of ...

Millinovae: A New Class of Transient Supersoft X-Ray Sources without a Classical Nova Eruption
Some accreting binary systems containing a white dwarf (such as classical novae or persistent supersoft sources) are seen to emit low-energy X-rays with temperatures of ∼ 10 ^6 K and luminosities exceeding 10 ^35 erg s ^−1 .

We photometrically observed four southern dwarf novae in outburst (NSV 10934, MM Sco, AB Nor and CAL 86). NSV 10934 was confirmed to be an SU UMa-type dwarf nova with a mean superhump period of 0.07478(1) d.

The inter-outburst behavior of cataclysmic variables [PDF]
Existing International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) and American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) archive data was used to accomplish a large scale study of what happens to the ultraviolet flux of accretion disk systems during the quiescent ...

Observations of Five Southern-hemisphere Cataclysmic Binary Stars
We present observations and analyses of five little-studied cataclysmic binary stars in the southern celestial hemisphere. Our new observations are from the South African Astronomical Observatory.

The 2006 November outburst of EG Aquarii: the SU UMa nature revealed
We report time-resolved CCD photometry of the cataclysmic variable EG Aquarii during the 2006 November outburst During the outburst, superhumps were unambiguously detected with a mean period of 0.078828(6) days, firstly classifying the object as an SU ...

Spectroscopic Identification and Population Properties of Cataclysmic Variables from DESI DR1
We present a systematic search for cataclysmic variables (CVs) using spectroscopic data from Data Release 1 of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument. Applying the Bagging-TopPush algorithm, we identified 433 CV candidates and related objects, of which

Ultraviolet spectroscopy of old novae and symbiotic stars [PDF]
The IUE spectra are presented for two old novae and for two of the symbiotic variables. Prominent emission line spectra are revealed as a continuum whose appearance is effected by the system inclination.

A 70 pc Diameter Nova Superremnant Surrounding the Recurrent Nova RS Ophiuchi
Recurrent novae undergo thermonuclear-powered eruptions separated by less than 100 yr, enabled by subgiant or red giant donors transferring hydrogen-rich matter at very high rates onto their massive white dwarf companions.
