A dynamic model for balancing values

Proceedings of the Eighteenth International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Law, 2021
We propose an additive model for balancing the impacts of actions on values, where factors intensify or attenuate impacts on values, and values are assigned degrees of relative importance (weights). The balancing model induces axiological rules, consisting in prohibitions or permissions that are justified according to the impacts of the prohibited or ...

The dynamics of standing balance

Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 2002
The control of standing is a complicated task that involves the action of muscles distributed over the whole body. Forces arising from gravity, external events or our own actions all tend to disturb the unstable equilibrium that preserves posture.

Dynamic balance in elite karateka

Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology, 2015
In karate, balance control represents a key performance determinant. With the hypothesis that high-level athletes display advanced balance abilities, the purpose of the current study was to quantitatively investigate the motor strategies adopted by elite and non-elite karateka to maintain balance control in competition.

Almost-balanced structural dynamics [PDF]

open access: possible38th Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 1997
Abstract Analytical models and experimentally derived models are often represented in the modal co-ordinates. The modal models include natural modes and their displacements. The scaling of the modes is arbitrary, and thus the scaling factor can be freely chosen.

Dynamic balance concept and the maintenance of the dynamic balance in humanoid robotics

2008 6th International Symposium on Intelligent Systems and Informatics, 2008
One of basic characteristics of regular bipedal walk of humanoid robots is the maintenance of their dynamic balance during the walk, whereby a decisive role is played by the unpowered degrees of freedom arising at the foot-ground contact. Hence, the role of Zero-Moment Point (ZMP) as an indicator of dynamic balance is indispensable.

On the dynamics of the fluid balancer

Journal of Fluids and Structures, 2014
Abstract This paper is concerned with the dynamics of a so-called fluid balancer; a hula hoop ring-like structure containing a small amount of liquid which, during rotation, is spun out to form a thin liquid layer on the outermost inner surface of the ring. The liquid is able to counteract unbalanced mass in an elastically mounted rotor.

DYNAMIC BALANCING

Journal of the American Society for Naval Engineers, 1918
A detailed description of the method developed and used at Mare Island for dynamically balancing the rotating elements (four rotors, one large reduction gear and two propellers) of the turbine propelling machinery U. S. S. “Shaw.”

Specificity of Learning and Dynamic Balance

Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1996
Contrary to a strict specificity of learning position, Robertson, Collins, Elliott, and Starkes (1994) have reported that the balance beam performance of expert gymnasts is less affected by the withdrawal of vision than is the performance of novice gymnasts.
