Optimization of the beam shaping with a dynamic phase spatial light modulator
SPIE Proceedings, 2005Several issues on the optimal diffractive beam shaping with a dynamic phase spatial light modulator are addressed. As for design theories, the optimal design method of the phase holograms considering the functional relationship between phase and amplitude modulations of the phase spatial light modulator is described.

Dynamic beam shaping for LED lighting
Applied Optics, 2023We describe an electrically tunable liquid crystal microlens array with a 65 mm clear aperture that allows the dynamic symmetric broadening of white light without mechanical movements. The fundamental mechanism of broadening is demonstrated to involve a spatial twist of molecular orientation.

Dynamic indoor free-space optical communication enabled by beam steering and beam shaping
Applied Optics, 2023Indoor free-space optical communication (FSO) provides orders of magnitude larger usable bandwidth compared to radio-frequency links but suffers from an intrinsic trade-off between areal coverage and received power. In this paper, we report a dynamic indoor FSO system enabled by a line-of-sight optical link featuring advanced beam ...

Dynamic shape control for a flexible beam
International Journal of Systems Science, 1988In this paper we discuss the dynamic shape control for a flexible beam such that even under unknown step disturbances, the shape of the beam will track the desired shape after a certain regulation time. In order to treat the case of point controls and point observations, we formulate the flexible beam by a second-order partial differential equation on ...

Dynamic beam shaping with freeform optics
SPIE Proceedings, 2014In this work we construct coherent superpositions of Gaussian and vortex modes which can be described to occupy the complex-plane. We demonstrate how these fields can be experimentally constructed in a digital, controllable manner with a spatial light modulator.

System technology for dynamic beam shaping
ICALEO 2015: 34th International Congress on Laser Materials Processing, Laser Microprocessing and Nanomanufacturing, 2015Since the power of continuous wave laser sources have reached one kilowatt, beam shaping is an important topic in the sector of laser material processing. The high intensity allows the increase of process speed, but the extreme local overheating often decreases the quality.

Dynamic generation of plasmonic bottle-beams with controlled shape
Optics Letters, 2014We demonstrate the generation of plasmonic bottle-beams based on self-accelerating surface plasmons. These beams are excited from free-space beams through a special binary phase mask. The mask generates two mirror-imaged self-accelerating surface plasmons, which form the plasmonic bottle-beam and a hot-spot at the point of convergence.

Dynamic holography for extended object beam shaping
SPIE Proceedings, 2013We describe a laboratory experiment to improve the energy-on-target for an extended object. We utilize an iterative approach combining digital holography for detection and SLM beam shaping for object re-illumination. We developed a technique to modify the SLM phase to prevent oversharpening of glints and other high intensity return signal points that ...

Computer control of independent collimator jaw positions and dose is combined with multiple-field summation techniques to design optimized radiation field profiles. Clinically relevant examples are shown for dynamic wedges and compensated mantle fields. Calculation, measurement, and verification techniques are discussed.

Temporal color mixing and dynamic beam shaping with silicon metasurfaces
Science, 2019A dynamic metasurface in the mix Metasurfaces have been designed and fabricated to function as many passive optical elements. A time-dependent active element can now be obtained by marrying concepts in microelectromechanics with an array of one-dimensional dielectric nanowires. Although such a static array has been used to select
