Instability of delamination growth in buckled stiffened composite panels

open access: yesMaterials & Design
The interaction between delamination propagation and buckling shape in composite structures becomes particularly significant in the presence of dynamic phenomena.

Bistable Networks Enable Complex Shape Changes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Transition‐controlled metamaterials are networks of bistable mechanical memory that store local binary states and express them as global shape change. By decoupling low‐force programming from high‐force holding, a single lattice is reconfigured into distinct 2D profiles and 3D surfaces without continuous actuation, enabling reusable morphing materials ...

(Dis)continuous buckling transition in elastic shell mediated by contact

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
Snap buckling is a rapid shape transition in slender structures, appearing as a fundamental switching mechanism of natural and man-made systems. Boundary conditions of structures are crucial to predict and control their snap buckling behavior.

Dimple‐Encoded Reprogrammable Origami

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Local snap‐through of bistable dimples turns flat elastic sheets into reprogrammable origami structures. Interaction‐guided dimple arrays act as angle‐programmable hinge bands, enabling one sheet to morph into distinct polygonal and three‐dimensional configurations while retaining stable shapes for deployable and protective functions.

An analytical solution for dynamic instability and vibration analysis of structural members with open and closed sections

open access: yesScientific Reports
Due to the excellent bending resistance characteristics, open- and closed-section members are widely used in engineering practice. However, the interactions between plates of different sections have a significant effect on the mechanical behavior of ...

Neuromorphic Devices and Computing for Sensing, Memory, and Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review introduces neuromorphic devices made from diverse materials. These devices mimic neuronal functions and architectures and, when integrated with artificial or biological computing, can form closed loops with neurons for pressure, optical, acoustic, and biochemical sensing and modulation.

Simplified Analytical Approach to Evaluate the Nonlinear Dynamics of Elastic Cylindrical Shells Under Lateral Blast Loads

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
This paper presents an analytical solution to predict the nonlinear forced vibrations of elastic thin-walled cylindrical shells under suddenly applied loads. Interest in this problem is motivated by effects due to explosions on fluid-storage metal tanks.

3D Printed Meter‐Scale Soft Origami Robots Capable of Load‐Bearing Actuation Via Crease Stiffness Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Origami has inspired numerous soft deployable mechanisms for safe human‐robot interaction, while its intrinsic kinematic instability at arbitrary configurations limited their practical robotic application. This work presents a 3D printed meter‐scale origami robotic actuator capable of load‐bearing deformation through creaseline stiffness modulation.

Experimental and Numerical Study on Dynamic Buckling of Cylindrical Composite Shells

open access: yes
Current structural design procedures incorporate simplification of the load as quasi-static, which can lead to over-designed structures on one hand. On the other hand, investigations show that in some cases buckling strength can be significantly less ...

Grain Boundary Structure Ordering via Electroshock Treatment Enhances Strength‐Ductility Synergy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electroshock treatment triggers atomic rearrangement, transforming disordered grain boundaries into ordered states without inducing recrystallization. This grain boundary ordering effectively relieves strain concentration and strengthens boundaries, enabling a simultaneous improvement in both strength and ductility.
