Mechanical behaviour of fluid-lubricated faults
The effect of fluid viscosity on fault mechanics is mainly conjectured by theoretical models. Here, the authors present experimental data from rock friction experiments, showing both static and dynamic friction coefficients to decrease with viscosity and

This plot compares experimental tensile stress–strain curves (with 4 different strain rates) and corresponding modelled curves (obtained using the optimised sets of Voce and Miller–Norton parameter values shown). The inferred M‐N values, characterizing the creep, are very similar to those obtained via conventional creep testing.

Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Toughening β‐Ga2O3 via Mechanically Seeded Dislocations
β‐Ga2O3 is promising for next‐generation semiconductors but its brittleness limits flexible and high‐precision applications. Here, mechanically seeded dislocations introduced by surface deformation improved damage tolerance in (001) β‐Ga2O3. Nanoindentation and characterization show dislocations suppress cleavage cracks by enabling stable plastic ...

Geometry‐Dependent Adhesion in Transparent Monodomain Liquid Crystal Elastomers
Liquid Crystal Elastomers (LCEs) are emerging as exciting pressure‐sensitive adhesives. We examine adhesion in chemically identical elastomer films, exploring the influence of geometry (director orientation) and phase (nematic or isotropic). We demonstrate the potential of these aligned films as transparent, tunable, broad‐temperature‐range smart ...

Dynamic absorber for self-excred system with distributed parameters (vibrating string)
The dynamic absorber may be used to damp the self - excited vibration or the string. The friction mechanism of absorber (λ) has decisive influence on the amplitude of self-exerted vibration of the string. For the strong dynamic absorber the increasing
