Intrapelvic Protrusion of a Dynamic Hip Screw

HIP International, 2006
The sliding hip screw, sometimes called the dynamic hip screw (DHS) has been a successful method for treating hip fractures. Nevertheless, mechanical complications of this system have been reported from time to time. They are mainly the result of instability of the fracture, bone quality and technical errors occurring during surgery. We report a case

Dynamic hip screws that fail

Injury, 1991
A series of 87 trochanteric fractures of the femur treated by dynamic hip screw, was reviewed. The relationship between the position of the fracture fragments and the position of the hip screw in the femoral head was investigated. Hip screws inserted into some parts of the femoral head were more likely to cut out than others.

Radiation exposure during dynamic hip screw operation

Injury, 1985
Exposure to radiation by surgeon and patient was measured in ten cases during insertion of a dynamic hip screw, using image intensified screening. There were low levels of irradiation of the thyroid and eyes of the surgeon. However, the dominant hand of the surgeon was often exposed to higher levels.

Intramedullary nailing confers an increased risk of medial migration compared to dynamic hip screw fixation in unstable intertrochanteric hip fractures.

Injury, 2021
INTRODUCTION Medial migration of the femoral neck element (FNE) superomedially against gravity with respect to the intramedullary component of the cephalomedullary nail is a complication increasingly recognized to cause femoral head cut-out in ...

Accuracy of valgus osteotomy using dynamic hip screw

Injury, 2017
Non-union of neck femur is a common but difficult situation to manage especially in young adults. There are two main options of arthroplasty or osteotomy. The aim of this study was to assess the results of intertrochanteric valgus osteotomy in non-union femoral neck fractures. We present a study of 44 cases of neck femur non-union including untreated ...

Cement restriction technique in dynamic hip screw revisions

Injury, 2002
When revising dynamic hip screw fixation to arthroplasty, the defect left by the lag screw in the proximal femur poses a problem for cement containment, with the potential for sub-optimal cementation. We recommend the use of a bioresorbable cement restrictor as a simple and effective means to overcome this problem.

Biomechanical analysis of the treatment of intertrochanteric hip fracture with different lengths of dynamic hip screw side plates

Technology and Health Care, 2020
BACKGROUND: Dynamic hip screw (DHS) is a common implant used to treat stable-type intertrochanteric hip fractures. There are many factors that can affect the success rate of the surgery, including the length of side plates.

The addition of an anti-rotation screw to the dynamic hip screw.

Acta orthopaedica Belgica, 2020
The aim of this study is to assess if there is a difference in outcomes between a dynamic hip screw with or without an anti-rotation screw in the treatment of hip fractures. All patients with an intracapsular hip fracture who underwent dynamic hip screw osteosynthesis between January 2010 and December 2013 in three Dutch hospitals were reviewed ...

[Management of hip fractures using a dynamic hip screw].

Magyar traumatologia, orthopaedia es helyreallito sebeszet, 1989
Authors describe the history of the dynamic hip screw and analyse the hip fracture. The operative technique of the DHS is described in details. In an analysis of the material of the Wilhelminenspital it is stressed that in the last years the DHS became dominant in the treatment of hip fractures.
