Housing as a modifier of air contaminant and temperature exposure in Great Britain: A modelling framework [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper presents the development of a modelling framework that quantifies the modifying effect of dwelling characteristics on exposure to indoor air pollution and excess temperature.

Accelerating Luminescence in Nanostructures: Exploring the Physical Limits and Impact of Ultrafast Emission in Nanoscale Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in accelerating luminescence in nanostructures through cooperative emission, resonator coupling, and nonlocal light–matter interactions. By unifying concepts such as excitonic superradiance, superfluorescence, and the plasmonic Purcell effect, it reveals physical limits of ultrafast emission and their potential ...

Semantic Visual SLAM Algorithm Based on Improved DeepLabV3+ Model and LK Optical Flow

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Aiming at the problem that dynamic targets in indoor environments lead to low accuracy and large errors in the localization and position estimation of visual SLAM systems and the inability to build maps containing semantic information, a semantic visual ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

A Dynamic Indoor Field Model for Emergency Evacuation Simulation

open access: yesISPRS Int. J. Geo Inf., 2017
Indoor emergency response plays a critically important role in disaster management for cities, which must consider the evacuation of people in a dynamic indoor environment. The spatial model is the foundation for the specific analysis of indoor emergency

Fold Walker: An Origami‐Inspired Quadruped Robot for Multipattern Locomotion and Object Grasping

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article presents Fold Walker, an origami‐inspired quadruped robot capable of multipattern locomotion and object grasping. With each leg featuring two rotational folds, the robot can transform from a flat 2D configuration into complex 3D poses. Furthermore, its trunk and legs can be one‐shot 3D printed as a unified structure, greatly simplifying ...

Improving the Robustness of Visual Teach‐and‐Repeat Navigation Using Drift Error Correction and Event‐Based Vision for Low‐Light Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Visual teach‐and‐repeat (VTR) navigation allows robots to learn and follow routes without building a full metric map. We show that navigation accuracy for VTR can be improved by integrating a topological map with error‐drift correction based on stereo vision.

TreeSpider: In‐Canopy Exploration With Tether‐Based Aerial Modular Arms

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A tethered drone with perching arms and a 360° ring enables unprecedented maneuverability within dense forest canopies. By dynamically adjusting tether length and decoupling pitch from the frame, it navigates between branches, senses multiple trees, and interacts physically with foliage.
