Dynamics of the Venus ionosphere revisited
Icarus, 1987The Whitten et al. (1984) dynamical model of the Venus ionosphere is presently modified in order to obtain a better match between observations and predictions. It is found that the nighttime ion densities are comparatively insensitive to the height of the ionopause above a value of 450 km.

Dynamics of three dimensional ionospheric plasma clouds
Physical Review Letters, 1987The first self-consistent, three-dimensional analysis of plasma cloud evolution in the ionosphere is presented. It is demonstrated that there is a preferred perpendicular scale size associated with 3D plasma clouds given by ${\mathrm{r}}_{\mathrm{c}}$\ensuremath{\sim}c(${\mathrm{T}}_{\mathrm{e}}$+${\mathrm{T}}_{\mathrm{i}}$)/${\mathrm{eB}}_{\mathrm{z}}$

Ionospheric dynamics 1945–1970
Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1974Abstract This article describes the development of dynamical theories of the ionosphere. Early work in the nineteen thirties and forties (Section 2) was followed in time by a theoretical understanding of the atmospheric dynamo and electromagnetic drift, then of how plasma diffusion operates in the F -region, and then of how the dynamics of the ...

Dynamical behaviour of the nighttime ionosphere at Arecibo
Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1971Abstract A survey of 130 nights of incoherent scatter data collected at Arecibo between October 1965 and June 1969 has revealed the presence of two persistent dynamical features in the night-time ionosphere. The first general characteristic is a downward motion of the F -layer which commences near midnight on 85 per cent of the nights and results in

Thermospheric and ionospheric dynamics in the auroral region
Advances in Space Research, 2003Abstract Behavior of the thermosphere and the ionosphere in the auroral region, especially near an auroral arc, is quite complicated. There have been a number of reports on vertical neutral winds in the auroral region, suggesting that heat sources associated with local auroral activities could cause extremely large upwelling and downwelling of the ...

The Dynamical Ionosphere - Ch. 14 The Complex Ionosphere
2019In this chapter the dynamical equations for the ionospheric medium are presented, as a multi-fluid system. The essential assumptions under the fluid representation are indicated. Then, a development of the representation in terms of stochastic components is presented, as an attempt to encode the out-of-equilibrium behaviour of the turbulent medium.

Dynamic model and observation of the equatorial ionosphere
Advances in Space Research, 1995Abstract The Hinotori satellite observed the electron density and temperature around the equatorial anomaly region at ∼600 km altitude during high solar activity. The observed electron temperature in the equatorial F region ionosphere was compared with the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) model. The results showed the large difference between

Dynamic model of ionospheric wind profiles
Journal of Geophysical Research, 1968A statistical analysis of velocity, shear, and wavelength versus altitude has recently been reported for 70 wind profiles observed at midlatitudes between 90- and 150-km altitude. Hines had previously considered theoretically the characteristics of a rotating wind vector with energy supplied from below and viscous loss within the region.

Numerical Simulation of Ionospheric and Plasmaspheric Dynamics.
1978Abstract : The development of computational schemes for numerical modelling of the plasmapause and the aurorally-induced plasma density gradients is described. Variations in location of the equatorial plasmapause are simulated using computer-generated maps representing an ensemble of test particles evolving under co-rotational and convection electric ...
