Time‐Varying Cycling Rates of Size‐fractionated Particulate Organic Carbon During the Decay of a North Atlantic Spring Bloom

open access: yesGlobal Biogeochemical Cycles, Volume 40, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract The concentrations of particulate organic carbon (POC) in the ocean are the result of a dynamic balance between multiple sources and sinks. Here, measurements of POC concentration in the small size fraction (SSF; 1–5 μm ${\upmu }\mathrm{m}$) and the large size fraction (LSF; >5μm ${ >} 5\ {\upmu }\mathrm{m}$) from the North Atlantic EXport ...

Sponges are celebrated heterotrophs but also key primary producers on changing coral reefs

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 6, Page 1561-1577, June 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Trophic interactions and nutrient cycling lay at the heart of ecosystem health and biodiversity. In recent years, our understanding of these drivers has been repeatedly challenged by rapid and unanticipated climatic effects, combined with an increasing awareness that ...

Depth‐dependent mechanisms regulate accumulation of plant‐ and microbial‐derived residues under long‐term nitrogen addition in a semiarid grassland

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 6, Page 1790-1808, June 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Plant‐ and microbial‐derived residues constitute the primary sources of soil organic carbon (SOC) in grassland ecosystems. However, their differential responses to chronic nitrogen (N) enrichment and the depth‐dependent mechanisms governing their accumulation remain ...

Ecological Niche Divergence in an Invasive Non‐Native Shrub: Implications for Risk Assessments

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 51, Issue 6, June 2026.
The worldwide spread invasive shrub Nicotiana glauca (tree tobacco) underwent divergent niche shifts across two of its invaded regions. In the mediterranean region it presents high thermal seasonality and low thermal seasonality in the Caatinga (Brazil).

Relationships between attachment insecurity, beliefs about the self and others, paranoia, and social functioning across the psychosis continuum

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Psychology, Volume 65, Issue 2, Page 530-550, June 2026.
Abstract Objectives Self‐beliefs and other‐regarding beliefs are related to attachment experiences and may contribute to paranoid beliefs and social functioning difficulties in psychosis. However, their relationships have not been examined jointly from an ecological perspective, while considering different degrees of psychosis risk.
