Factor models can cope with many variables without running into scarce degrees of freedom problems often faced in a regression-based analysis. In this article we review recent work on dynamic factor models that have become popular in macroeconomic policy analysis and forecasting.

A family of probabilistic time series models is developed to analyze the time evolution of topics in large document collections. The approach is to use state space models on the natural parameters of the multinomial distributions that represent the topics.

Automation of excavation work calls for a robotic system able to perform the planned digging work that is responsive to interaction forces experienced during excavation. The development of automated excavation control methods requires a dynamic model to describe the evolution of the excavator motion with time.

Dynamics of Epidemiological Models
Acta Biotheoretica, 2010We study the SIS and SIRI epidemic models discussing different approaches to compute the thresholds that determine the appearance of an epidemic disease. The stochastic SIS model is a well known mathematical model, studied in several contexts. Here, we present recursively derivations of the dynamic equations for all the moments and we derive the ...

Our book is the vigorous claim that we are neither vagabonds nor rogues. Throughout, we are trying to reveal the technical aspects as well as the open-ended art of modeling. We have worked as though possessed with the thought of Conquest’s conviction. And the verdict is not yet returned.

Models for Dynamic Macroeconomics
2004Abstract Introduces methodological tools for dynamic analysis of macroeconomic phenomena: consumption and investment choices, employment, and unemployment outcomes, and economic growth. Discrete‐time dynamic optimization under uncertainty is introduced in Ch. 1 and applied to intertemporal consumption theory, with particular attention to

The models that form the basis for the design of adaptive control algorithms considered throughout the book for distributed collector solar fields are described. The aim is not to describe in detail the model of a specific plant but instead to describe reduced complexity models (including partial differential equations or linear or nonlinear finite ...
