Dynamic algebras and the nature of induction

Proceedings of the twelfth annual ACM symposium on Theory of computing - STOC '80, 1980
Dynamic algebras constitute the variety (equationally defined class) of models of the Segerberg axioms for propositional dynamic logic. We obtain the following results (to within inseparability). (i) In any dynamic algebra * is reflexive transitive closure. (ii) Every free dynamic algebra can be factored into finite dynamic algebras. (iii) Every finite

Natural & normative dynamical coupling

Cognitive Systems Research, 2017
Cognitive science has been dealt with the unique task of straddling and bridging the gaps between the mind and the body. One such gap that has not received as much attention within the literature is the gap between the natural and the normative. We propose that the theory of autopoiesis can be used for bridging this gap, and, so, we incorporate ...

Dynamic Displays in Nature

Information Display, 2014
Squid, cuttlefish, and octopus developed elaborate skin displays millions of years ago, with performance that is still superior in many ways to today's leading display technologies. Studying the mechanisms by which animals rapidly and efficiently change their coloration and patterning using only ambient light can offer bio‐inspired routes to improved ...

Investment Dynamics with Natural Expectations. [PDF]

open access: possibleInternational journal of central banking, 2012
We study an investment model in which agents have the wrong beliefs about the dynamic properties of fundamentals. Specifically, we assume that agents underestimate the rate of mean reversion. The model exhibits the following six properties: (i) Beliefs are excessively optimistic in good times and excessively pessimistic in bad times.
