Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Unveiling the dynamics of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption in driving environmental sustainability in sub-Saharan Africa

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Economics
IntroductionSub-Saharan Africa faces increasing environmental pressure amid rising energy demand, economic growth, and rapid population expansion. While renewable energy is often promoted as a pathway to sustainable development, fossil fuel dependence ...

DETERMINANTS OF REGIONAL COMPETITIVENESS IN ROMANIA - A PANEL DATA APPROACH [PDF]

open access: yesStrategii Manageriale, 2014
In this study, a few panel data models were estimated to analyze the regional competitiveness in the 42 counties (including Bucharest) of Romania. The dynamic panel with Arellano "Bover/Blundell" Bond estimators and robust standard errors showed that ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Assessing the impact of heat stress on technical efficiency in rice production: evidence from Japanese farmers using a stochastic frontier approach

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems
BackgroundClimate change and associated heat stress threaten agricultural productivity, particularly rice production. Japan, characterized by its monsoon climate and heavy reliance on rice as a staple food, faces heightened risks from extreme ...

Dynamic Spatial Panels: Models, Methods and Inferences

open access: yesJournal of Geographical Systems, 2011
This paper provides a survey of the existing literature on the specification and estimation of dynamic spatial panel data models, a collection of models for spatial panels extended to include one or more of the following variables and/or error terms: a dependent variable lagged in time, a dependent variable lagged in space, a dependent variable lagged ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
