Application of Microfluidics in the Production and Analysis of Food Foams

open access: yesFoods, 2019
Emulsifiers play a key role in the stabilization of foam bubbles. In food foams, biopolymers such as proteins are contributing to long-term stability through several effects such as increasing bulk viscosity and the formation of viscoelastic interfaces ...

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Effect of surfactant concentration on the responsiveness of a thermoresponsive copolymer/surfactant mixture with potential application on Smart foams formulations

open access: yes, 2017
We studied a system formed by a mixture of a thermoresponsive negatively charged graft copolymer (Alg-g-PNIPAAm) with a brush-type structure, and an oppositely charged surfactant (DTAB), in bulk and at the air-solution interface. We performed experiments

Climate-relevant physical properties of molecular constituents for isoprene-derived secondary organic aerosol material [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2014
Secondary organic aerosol (SOA) particles, formed from gas-phase biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs), contribute large uncertainties to the radiative forcing that is associated with aerosols in the climate system.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Simulation of bubbles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
International audienceWe present a novel framework based on a continuous fluid simulator for general simulation of realistic bubbles, with which we can handle as many significant dynamic bubble effects as possible.

Dynamic Solid Surface Tension Causes Droplet Pinning and Depinning

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2018
The contact line of a liquid drop on a solid exerts a nanometrically sharp surface traction. This provides an unprecedented tool to study highly localised and dynamic surface deformations of soft polymer networks. One of the outstanding problems in this context is the stick-slip instability, observed above a critical velocity, during which the contact ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Dynamic surface tension of complex fluid-fluid interfaces: A useful concept, or not? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Dilatational moduli are typically determined by subjecting interfaces to oscillatory area deformations, and are often defined in terms of the difference between the dynamic or transient surface tension of the interface (the surface tension in its ...

Effect of surfactants on liquid side mass transfer coefficients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In the present paper, the effect of liquid properties (surfactants) on bubble generation phenomenon, interfacial area and liquid side mass transfer coefficient was investigated.
