Strip loading in reinforced concrete: Mechanical modeling and experimental validation
Abstract Strip loading of reinforced concrete is a common problem in engineering practice. The concrete compressive strength at the load introduction can be several times higher than the uniaxial concrete compressive strength, which can be attributed to geometrical and passive confining stresses caused by load dispersion and reinforcement, respectively.

Abstract Precast reinforced concrete segmental linings are frequently used in modern tunneling. In these linings, the longitudinal joints typically have a reduced contact cross‐section and thus often govern the design, particularly in tunnels under high hydrostatic pressure or crossing squeezing or swelling ground with correspondingly high ...

Using programmable infusion pump in avian species – a validation methodology in geese
Wildlife face anthropogenic and natural stressors that affect their physiology and behaviour. The activity of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis and glucocorticoid (GC) production is intrinsically linked with energy regulation and environmental stressors.

ABSTRACT Background In bipolar disorder (BD), physical inactivity and sedentary behaviour are prevalent and have been linked to BD's cognitive symptoms, although the directionality of these links is not clear. This proof‐of‐concept study examined whether cognitive function during mid‐ and later‐life was prospectively related to physical activity and ...

Summary The interplay of daily life factors, including mood, physical activity, or light exposure, influences sleep architecture and quality. Laboratory‐based studies often isolate these determinants to establish causality, thereby sacrificing ecological validity.

ABSTRACT For athletes in endurance sports, who compete over several days and in unpredictable conditions, managing sleep–wake rhythms is critical to ensure optimal performance and minimise the risks to safety. Despite its growing popularity, the role of sleep management on ultracycling performance has received little attention.

Experimental evaluation on dynamic strength characteristics of saline clay subjected to freeze-thaw
The most noteworthy of the artificial ground freezing (AGF) technology application in subsea tunnels is the freeze-thaw (FT) effect. Changes in soil structure caused by the FT may lead to a decrease in strength, uneven settlement may occur during the ...

ABSTRACT This review investigates the influence of graphene on the fatigue performance of polymer‐based composites, focusing on both unreinforced matrices and fiber‐reinforced composite laminates. Graphene materials, including nanoplatelets, graphene oxide, and hybrid nanostructures, offer exceptional mechanical, electrical, and barrier properties that

Study on dynamic compression characteristics of coal containing gas under different strain rates
To investigate the dynamic compression properties and crushing features of gas-containing coal under complex geological environments, a dynamic and static combined loading test system was independently developed for conducting triaxial dynamic ...
