Optimal Cantilever Dynamic Vibration Absorbers
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1977This work considers the use of a double-ended cantilever beam as a distributed parameter dynamic vibration absorber applied to a single-degree-of-freedom system in the presence of sinusoidal forces. The problem is analyzed exactly and by an energy approach using a single mode approximation for the cantilever beam.

This invention relates to suppression of vibrations in massive systems including large rotating elements such as induction fan rotors used in electric power generating plants. In particular, this invention relates to the provision of a tuned vibration absorber with very low damping, often known as a dynamic vibration absorber, which acts to reduce or ...

A Thermoviscoelastic Dynamic Vibration Absorber
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1998A dynamic vibration absorber with a viscoelastic element is studied. The viscoelastic element is modeled as a material with memory in which the internal dissipative force depends on current, as well as previous deformations. The viscoelastic behavior is governed by two parameters: the relaxation modulus Go, and the relaxation time γ.

A vibration damping arrangement for a structural member including leaf springs extending horizontally from a vibration absorber body adapted to be attached to the structural member. A set of horizontal-vibration-absorbing leaf springs extends in one horizontal plane while a set of vertical-vibration-absorbing leaf springs extends in another horizontal ...

Synthesis of Dynamic Vibration Absorbers
Journal of Vibration and Acoustics, 1985A method for designing dynamic vibration absorbers which create antiresonances at specified points on a sinusoidally forced vibratory system is described. Spring-mass absorber systems are treated in detail. Among all possible solutions, a unique minimum mass solution is shown to exist if the relative displacement of the absorber mass is constrained ...

Tuned dynamic vibration absorber
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1997A vibration absorber is provided for reducing noise and vibration emanating from an electric motor, or another vibrating object, and the surrounding structure to which it is mounted. The vibration absorber has a beam with a mass secured thereto. The vibration absorber is mounted externally to the motor, in a direction perpendicular to an axis of ...

Platelike Dynamic Vibration Absorbers
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1975Platelike dynamic vibration absorbers of novel design are described, and optimum values of their tuning and damping parameters are specified in graphical form. The dynamic absorbers are assumed to comprise either a circular or an annular damped plate that is loaded at its outer perimeter by a rigid annular mass.

Energy harvesting dynamic vibration absorber under random vibration
2013 IEEE International Conference on Control Applications (CCA), 2013Energy harvesting from structural vibration using piezoelectric material has received much attention in the past few years. The idea is to scavenge energy out of a vibrating host. Coupling energy harvesting with structural vibration control is a challenging task due to conflicting goals.

Vibration absorber with dynamic damper
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008In an engine mount (A) whose axis (X) is oriented in the front to rear direction of a vehicle, a damper weight ( 12 ) is embedded within a toroidal stopper rubber ( 10 ) fixed at its inner periphery to the rear end of an inner cylinder ( 2 ). The damper weight ( 12 ) is made of, for example, steel plate to have a spiral form and placed to surround the ...

An adaptive tunable dynamic vibration absorber
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2007This paper examines a new concept of adaptive tuned dynamic vibration absorbers (ATDVAs) using shape memory alloy (SMA) elements instead of spring elements. Shape memory is a class of alloys that shows a reversible change in crystalline structure. In the martensite phase, the material exhibits a low elastic modulus and yield strength.
