The kinetics of partial wetting was investigated for the case of spreading of cylindrical and axisymmetric drops over a horizontal solid surface under the action of capillary forces. The Brochard-Wyart and de Gennes (1992) relation, having a cut off of molecular size below which the continuum theory breaks down, is used to provide a dynamic contact ...

Dynamics of wetting: local contact angles
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1990We discuss the motion of a triple line for a fluid spreading on a flat solid surface in conditions of partial wetting: the equilibrium contact angle θ e is assumed to be finite but small: 0 < θ e [Lt ] 1. We distinguish four regions: (1) a molecular domain of size a (≈ a few Ångströms) very near the triple line, where ...

Short-Time Dynamics of Partial Wetting
Physical Review Letters, 2008When a liquid drop contacts a wettable surface, the liquid spreads over the solid to minimize the total surface energy. The first moments of spreading tend to be rapid. For example, a millimeter-sized water droplet will wet an area having the same diameter as the drop within a millisecond.

The wetting properties of liquids against a solid surface are important for many adhesion purposes. A vast amount of knowledge on the statics of wetting has been collected by Zisman and his co-workers(1) mainly for the case of partial wetting, where contact angles can be measured, and related to interfacial energies.
