Financial Frictions and New Exporter Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2014
This article studies the role of financial frictions as a barrier to international trade. We study new exporter dynamics to identify how these frictions affect export decisions. We introduce a borrowing constraint and working capital requirements into a standard model of international trade, with exports more working capital intensive than domestic ...

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Dynamical Friction in a Gas: The Supersonic Case [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Any gravitating mass traversing a relatively sparse gas experiences a retarding force created by its disturbance of the surrounding medium. In a previous contribution (Lee & Stahler 2011), we determined this dynamical friction force when the object's ...

DYNAMICAL FRICTION AROUND SUPERMASSIVE BLACK HOLES [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2011
The density of stars in galactic bulges is often observed to be flat or slowly rising inside the influence radius of the supermassive black hole (SMBH). Attributing the dynamical friction force to stars moving more slowly than the test body, as is commonly done, is likely to be a poor approximation in such a core since there are no stars moving more ...

Optimizing Post Friction Stir Welding Heat Treatment in Dissimilar Friction Stir Welded 6061/AlSi10MgMn Joints for Electrical Vehicle Battery Housing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Microstructural evolution and hardness optimization along the cross‐section of friction stir welded AA6061/AlSi10MgMn joints, for electric vehicle battery housings, were investigated. Postweld aging between 170°C and 220°C enhances hardness uniformity within the nugget zone.

Stochastic dissipative quantum spin chains (I) : Quantum fluctuating discrete hydrodynamics

open access: yesSciPost Physics, 2017
Motivated by the search for a quantum analogue of the macroscopic fluctuation theory, we study quantum spin chains dissipatively coupled to quantum noise. The dynamical processes are encoded in quantum stochastic differential equations.

Some improvements to the spherical collapse model

open access: yes, 2006
I study the joint effect of dynamical friction, tidal torques and cosmological constant on clusters of galaxies formation I show that within high-density environments, such as rich clusters of galaxies, both dynamical friction and tidal torques slows ...

Can Ti‐Based MXenes Serve as Solid Lubricants for Brake Applications? A Tribological Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the first implementation of Ti‐based MXenes materials in brake pad friction composite material. The resulting composite material exhibits a 48% reduction in the wear rate; alongside significant improvements are observed for thermal and mechanical properties.

Gaseous Dynamical Friction on Elliptical Keplerian Orbits

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We compute the gaseous dynamical friction force experienced by massive perturbers on elliptical Keplerian orbits. Using linear perturbation theory, we investigate the density wake morphology, dynamical friction force, and secular orbital evolution for ...
