Physiological framework for non-invasive detection and objective nociception activity in communicative patients: a pilot case study

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
Pain assessment in both communicative and non-communicative patients remains a major clinical challenge due to the inherently subjective nature of conventional tools such as the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS).

Sampling Rate Offset Estimation and Compensation for Distributed Adaptive Node-Specific Signal Estimation in Wireless Acoustic Sensor Networks

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Signal Processing, 2023
Sampling rate offsets (SROs) between devices in a heterogeneous wireless acoustic sensor network (WASN) can hinder the ability of distributed adaptive algorithms to perform as intended when they rely on coherent signal processing.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

End-to-end speech emotion recognition using a novel context-stacking dilated convolution neural network

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Audio, Speech, and Music Processing, 2021
Amongst the various characteristics of a speech signal, the expression of emotion is one of the characteristics that exhibits the slowest temporal dynamics.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Abstract mechanical connection and abelian reconstruction for almost Kähler manifolds

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2001
When the phase space P of a Hamiltonian G-system (P,ω,G,J,H) has an almost Kähler structure a preferred connection, called abstract mechanical connection, can be defined by declaring horizontal spaces at each point to be metric orthogonal to the ...

Multi-centered N = 2 $$ \mathcal{N}=2 $$ BPS black holes: a double copy description

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
We present the on-shell double copy dictionary for linearised N = 2 $$ \mathcal{N}=2 $$ supergravity coupled to an arbitrary number of vector multiplets in four dimensions.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Modeling drug retention as memory effects in obese patients using fractional and augmented models

open access: yesScientific Reports
Lipophilic anesthetic drugs accumulate in adipose tissue, leading to delayed release and prolonged effects, particularly in obese patients. This study proposes two novel physiologically motivated pharmacokinetic (PK) models to address these dynamics. The
