The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Birkhoff sum fluctuations in substitution dynamical systems

open access: yes, 2019
We consider the deviation of Birkhoff sums along fixed orbits of substitution dynamical systems. We show distributional convergence for the Birkhoff sums of eigen functions of the substitution matrix.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Image Hiding Scheme Based on the Atrial Fibrillation Model

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2015
An image communication scheme based on the atrial fibrillation (AF) model is presented in this paper. Self-organizing patterns produced by the AF model are used to hide and transmit secret visual information.

On adjoint dynamical systems [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of Mathematical Biology, 1973
Transformations of dynamical systems are discussed in terms of adjoint, simple adjoint and weak adjoint functors. The relevance of this approach to interpretations of nuclear transplant experiments is suggested, and three new theorems concerning the development of biological systems are presented.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
