SUMMARY This paper outlines the design and preliminary testing of a “tunnel” broaching dynamometer in which a rectangular test-piece is drawn by hydraulic piston between opposing broach teeth. The path of the test-piece may be guided by ball bearing races or be freely determined by the action of the cutting forces. Brief reference is made to an earlier

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1959
A bearing dynamometer has been devised and built which enables ready evaluation of bearing materials. Coefficient of friction and shaft speed are presented on an X-Y recorder. By varying the load on the bearing a family of curves may be quickly obtained yielding the basic performance characteristics of the bearing materials under actual bearing ...

The Dynamometer and the Diemenese
1990With these words Francois Auguste Peron (1807) set his experimental results against the conventional beliefs of the eighteenth century. His ‘actual experiments’ involved the use of a dynamometer to measure loin and hand strength. The dynamometer became the lever to overturn the cherished Enlightenment doctrine of the Noble Savage.
