Diprosopus dirrhinus (nasal duplication) in a female Holstein Friesian calf: Clinical findings, diagnostic imaging and surgical management

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, May 2026.
Abstract An 11‐week‐old Holstein Friesian heifer calf presented with a congenital nasal abnormality characterised by an additional, turbinate‐like structure located dorsally on the nasal bridge. Aligning Incentives for Contract Dairy Heifer Growth [PDF]

open access: yes
As dairy farms grow and specialize in milking cows, raising replacement heifers is increasingly outsourced. Perhaps the largest challenge of outsourcing the heifer enterprise involves quality, measured as milk production potential, and the possibility ...

Potential Impact of Revising the Diagnostic Criteria for Gestational Diabetes on Maternal Pregnancy and Infant Perinatal Outcomes

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes, Volume 18, Issue 5, May 2026.
Revising the New Zealand gestational diabetes (GDM) diagnostic criteria leads to an 18% relative increase of GDM prevalence by identifying an additional high‐risk group likely to benefit from treatment, but 35.5% of those currently receiving GDM care would no longer be diagnosed, potentially compromising their maternal and infant health.

Genetic Evaluation of Beef Sires Using a Beef‐on‐Dairy Crossbred Reference Population

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Volume 143, Issue 3, Page 390-402, May 2026.
ABSTRACT In recent years, Beef‐on‐Dairy (BoD) crossbreeding programs have gained momentum to enhance dairy cattle's economic and genetic merits while meeting the demand for high‐quality beef. However, bulls with superior growth potential can lead to calving problems; thus, Holstein dairy farmers must decide which semen to use to avoid calving problems ...

Genomic Prediction Ability Using Linear and Threshold Approaches for Different Stayability Definitions in Nellore Females

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Volume 143, Issue 3, Page 457-464, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Enhancing female longevity through regular calvings improves herd replacement rates and reduces the costs associated with replacing low reproductive efficiency animals. Stayability (STAY), defined as a cow's ability to remain productive in the herd, is a categorical trait that challenges traditional genetic evaluation due to its non‐normal ...

A Predictive Model for Intrapartum Cesarean Delivery in Multiparous Women After Active Labor Onset

open access: yesJournal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research, Volume 52, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Although prediction models for cesarean delivery have been established for nulliparous women, few have been developed for multiparous women, particularly for predicting intrapartum cesarean delivery after the onset of active labor. This study aimed to develop and validate a risk prediction model for intrapartum cesarean delivery in ...
