The Joint Spermatozoa of Dytiscidae

The paired or grouped spermatozoa of Dytiscidae have been thoroughly described by Ballowitz (1895), who studied no fewer than 12 species. Already in the light microscope this author gave a precise account of the most peculiar forms of the heads, which may even vary to a large extent within different species of this family.

Cytochemistry and fine structure of elimination chromatin in Dytiscidae

Abstract The elimination chromatin of Dytiscidae contains the whole nucleolar material. It synthesizes both DNA and RNA independently of the chromosomes. Once synthesized, these nucleic acids stay within the elimination chromatin mass throughout the differentiation process until the whole structure is eliminated from the oocyte nucleus.

Apart from chemical receptors and senses within Dytiscidae there are described intraspecific (pheromones) and especially interspecific interactions with respect to this water beetle family.
