open access: yesArchiwa, Biblioteki i Muzea Kościelne, 2015

Potential and Limitations of Machine Learning for Modeling Warm‐Rain Cloud Microphysical Processes

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 12, Issue 12, December 2020., 2020
Abstract The use of machine learning based on neural networks for cloud microphysical parameterizations is investigated. As an example, we use the warm‐rain formation by collision‐coalescence, that is, the parameterization of autoconversion, accretion, and self‐collection of droplets in a two‐moment framework.

Stochastic coalescence in Lagrangian cloud microphysics [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2017
Stochasticity of the collisional growth of cloud droplets is studied using the super-droplet method (SDM) of Shima et al.(2009). Statistics are calculated from ensembles of simulations of collision–coalescence in a single well-mixed cell.

Confronting the Challenge of Modeling Cloud and Precipitation Microphysics

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 12, Issue 8, August 2020., 2020
Abstract In the atmosphere, microphysics refers to the microscale processes that affect cloud and precipitation particles and is a key linkage among the various components of Earth's atmospheric water and energy cycles. The representation of microphysical processes in models continues to pose a major challenge leading to uncertainty in numerical ...
