Janus kinase 2 inhibition by pacritinib as potential therapeutic target for liver fibrosis
Diagram of the activation of the profibrotic and procontractile Janus kinase 2 (JAK2)/Ras homolog family member A/Rho‐kinase pathway and the inhibition of phosphorylated JAK2 by pacritinib to inhibit hepatic stellate cell activity. Abstract Background and Aims Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) signaling is increased in human and experimental liver fibrosis with ...

NO THE HOLMBERG EFFECT FOR GALAXY PAIRS SELECTED FROM THE SDSS DR9 AT Z ≤ 0:06
We studied the Holmberg effect in galaxy pairs selected from the SDSS DR9, where 60561galaxies were limited by redshift 0.02 < z < 0.06 and absolute magnitude: Mr ≤ −20.7 m for central galaxies (N=18578) and Mr > −21.5 m for neighbor galaxies (N=41983 ...

E+A Galaxy Candidates in and around the Leo Cluster
Abstract E+A galaxies are post-starburst galaxies that have undergone a recent, complete quenching of star formation. We have analyzed a color-constrained sample of galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey within a 77.′5 radius of the center of the Leo cluster of galaxies (A1367; J2000 11:44:36.5 + 19:45:32) within 3000 km s−1 of Leo’s

Integral field spectroscopy of two H i-rich E+A galaxies [PDF]
Approximately half of the nearby E+A galaxies followed up with 21-cm observations have detectable HI emission. The optical spectra of these galaxies show strong post-starburst stellar populations but no optical emission lines implying star-formation is not ongoing despite the presence of significant gas reservoirs.

The evolutionary sequence of post-starburst galaxies [PDF]
© 2017 The Authors. There are multiple ways in which to select post-starburst galaxies in the literature. In this work, we present a study into how two well-used selection techniques have consequences on observable post-starburst galaxy parameters, such ...

Detection of Massive Forming Galaxies at Redshifts Greater than One [PDF]
The complex problem of when and how galaxies formed has not until recently been susceptible of direct attack. It has been known for some time that the excessive number of blue galaxies counted at faint magnitudes implies that a considerable fraction of ...

Searching for Spectroscopic Signatures of Ongoing Quenching in SDSS Galaxies
In this paper, we estimate the “star formation change parameter,” SFR _79 , which characterizes the current SFR relative to the average during the last 800 Myr, for ∼300,000 galaxies selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS).

The Kinematic Bimodality: Efficient Feedback and Cold Gas Deficiency in Slow-rotating Galaxies
The bimodality in the stellar spin of low-redshift (massive) galaxies, ubiquitously existing at all star formation levels and in diverse environments, suggests that galaxies grow and quench through two diverged evolutionary pathways.
