Risk Times in Mission‐Oriented Systems

open access: yesQuality and Reliability Engineering International, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article assesses risk times in mission‐oriented systems with high safety standards. We examine critical times under two safety policies. The first requires that the system's reliability function, known the first failure of the components, must exceed a reliability level throughout the mission.

Lacking data? No worries! How synthetic images can alleviate image scarcity in wildlife surveys: A case study with muskox (Ovibos moschatus)

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
This study investigates the integration of synthetic imagery, created with diffusion‐based models, to supplement limited training data and improve muskox (Ovibos moschatus) detection in zero‐shot (ZS) and few‐shot (FS) settings. ZS models detected more than 80% of muskoxen in real images, confirming the potential of synthetic data as a substitute for ...

Acid Resistant and Highly Silver Selective Membranes Based on Charged Nanoporous 2D‐Materials

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
In this work, new membranes based on charged & nanoporous nanosheets with unprecedented selectivity to silver versus a wide range of other metallic ions are reported. Furthermore, a demonstrated and lead specific intralamellar lead pathway is demonstrated. A potential applicability for ubiquitous silver in WEEE is validated.

Cement Lines are Stiffer and Harder than Bone but Exhibit Different Mineral–Mechanics Relationships due to Thicker and Shorter Mineral Particles

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
Bone's complex hierarchical structure contains many internal interfaces, including the cement line (CL) around osteons. This article shows that the CL is stiffer and harder than surrounding bone but has different mineral–mechanics relationships. These findings challenge the view of the CL as a soft, protective interface and provide insights for ...

Unsupervised Work Behavior Pattern Extraction Based on Hierarchical Probabilistic Model

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, EarlyView.
In this study, we address the challenge of analyzing worker behaviors in high‐mix, low‐volume production environments, where traditional supervised learning methods struggle owing to the lack of labeled data and task variability among workers. To overcome these issues, we propose a novel hierarchical approach for unsupervised behavior pattern ...
