Characteristics, Management, and Utilization of Muscles in Musculoskeletal Humanoids: Empirical Study on Kengoro and Musashi

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Musculoskeletal humanoids exhibit rich biomechanical properties that remain insufficiently unified in prior discussions. This article systematically categorizes muscle characteristics into five properties: redundancy, independency, anisotropy, variable moment arm, and nonlinear elasticity, and analyzes their combined effects on control.

Multicyclic D‐Stereospecific Hydrolase Dimer With High Sustained Activity

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Protein macrocyclization was applied to a thermally unstable D‐stereospecific hydrolase using in situ cyclization of proteins (INCYPRO). This site‐specific cross‐linking approach enhanced the resistance of the enzyme to heat and cosolvents.

Physical activity of electric bicycle users compared to conventional bicycle users and non-cyclists: Insights based on health and transport data from an online survey in seven European cities

open access: yesTransportation Research Interdisciplinary Perspectives, 2019
Physical activity has been widely associated with beneficial health effects. The use of electric-assist bicycles (e-bikes) can lead to increased or decreased physical activity, depending on the transport mode substituted. This study aimed to compare ...

A Flexible and Energy‐Efficient Compute‐in‐Memory Accelerator for Kolmogorov–Arnold Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article presents KA‐CIM, a compute‐in‐memory accelerator for Kolmogorov–Arnold Networks (KANs). It enables flexible and efficient computation of arbitrary nonlinear functions through cross‐layer co‐optimization from algorithm to device. KA‐CIM surpasses CPU, ASIC, VMM‐CIM, and prior KAN accelerators by 1–3 orders of magnitude in energy‐delay ...

Structurally Constrained Stibenium: Metallomimetic C−Si Bond Activation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A structurally constrained stibenium cation supported by a 2,6‐bis(o‐carborano)pyridine pincer‐type ligand was prepared, and its preliminary reactivity toward silanes was investigated. Remarkably, Si−C bonds in silanes undergo activation via an oxidative‐addition‐type process at the cationic Sb center.

Determining E-Bike Drivers’ Decision-Making Mechanisms during Signal Change Interval Using the Hidden Markov Driving Model

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation, 2019
Rapidly increasing e-bike use in China has resulted in new traffic problems including rising accident rates at intersections related to e-bike drivers’ decision-making during multiple signal phases. Traditional one-step decision models (such as GHM) lack

Material‐Based Intelligence: Autonomous Adaptation and Embodied Computation in Physical Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This perspective formulates a unifying framework for Material‐Based Intelligence (MBI), defining the physical requirements for materials to achieve embodied action, active memory and embodied information processing through intrinsic nonequilibrium dynamics. The design of intelligent materials often draws parallels with the complex adaptive behaviors of

Sulfur‐Directed Construction of Vinyl Cyclopropanes from 1,3‐Dienes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Sulfur takes control. A pending thioether acts as a molecular compass, directing carbene addition to the 1,3‐diene scaffold with exceptional regio‑ and diastereocontrol to forge sulfur‐substituted vinyl cyclopropanes (S‐VCPs) — molecular architectures inaccessible via conventional cyclopropanation strategies.

Introducing Additional Low Emission Mobility Offers in a Well Connected Area: Challenges and Opportunities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
European cities and regions strive for energy efficiency to meet the Europe 2020 goals on climate change and energy sustainability. At present, the transport sector is one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions due to the dependence on fossil ...
