Photocatalytic inactivation of E. faecalis in secondary wastewater plant effluents [PDF]

open access: bronzeWater Science and Technology, 2010
Photocatalytic inactivation of Enterococcus faecalis using TiO2 suspensions was investigated and compared to the inactivation of the most commonly used faecal indicator strain Escherichia coli. In contrast to the inactivation in pure deionized water, disinfection of effluents from the biological process of an urban wastewater plant showed a longer ...

The Structure and Function of Biomaterial Endolysin EFm1 from E. faecalis Phage. [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials (Basel), 2022
The endolysin EFm1 from the E. faecalis 002 (002) phage IME-EF1 efficiently lyses E. faecalis, a gram-positive bacterium that severely threatens human health. Here, the structure and lytic activity of EFm1 toward E. faecalis were further investigated. Lytic activity shows that EFm1 specifically lyses 002 and 22 other clinically isolated E.

Carbohydrate Metabolism Affects Macrophage-Mediated Killing of Enterococcus faecalis

open access: yesmSystems, 2021
Enterococcus faecalis, an opportunistic pathogen that causes severe community-acquired and nosocomial infections, has been reported to resist phagocyte-mediated killing, which enables its long-term survival in the host.

Herbal combat against E. faecalis - An in vitro study. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Oral Biol Craniofac Res, 2017
Herbs have renewed importance in this modern era for their antimicrobial properties and fewer side effects. So a novel idea to use these herbs for pulpectomy; was implemented. There are chances of failure of pulpectomy due to inefficient removal of microbial load.

Exposure of embryonating eggs to Enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli potentiates E. coli pathogenicity and increases mortality of neonatal chickens

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2022
Enterococci and Escherichia coli are opportunistic pathogens of poultry and are associated with embryo and neonatal chick mortality. We have recently demonstrated that 56% of dead broiler chicken embryos in commercial hatcheries in western Canada were ...

Linezolid and levofloxacin: an uncommon pairing that suppresses evolution of resistance in E. faecalis. [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbes
Abstract Drug combinations offer one potential strategy for slowing the evolution of antibiotic resistance. In this work, we investigate the evolution of drug resistance (strictly, the decrease in susceptibility) in populations of Enterococcus faecalis, an opportunistic human pathogen, exposed to different concentrations of the rarely

Enterococcus faecalis : E. coli ’s Siderophore-Inducing Sidekick [PDF]

open access: yesCell Host & Microbe, 2016
Many infectious diseases involve polymicrobial infections, which are characterized by synergistic interactions between different microorganisms colonizing a host. In this issue of Cell Host & Microbe, Keogh et al. (2016) show that Enterococcus faecalis promotes Escherichia coli biofilm formation in low-iron conditions, thus facilitating polymicrobial ...

Driving forces of vancomycin-resistant E. faecium and E. faecalis blood-stream infections in children [PDF]

open access: goldAntimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control, 2014
Rates of invasive vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) in the USA remains on the rise. Efforts to control vancomycin use and nosocomial transmission have had limited success in halting the spread of this pathogen. The role of antibiotic exposure remains a topic of controversy.

Novel approaches on root canal disinfection methods against E. faecalis. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Oral Microbiol
Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis), the main pathogenic bacterium of root canal infection, can penetrate deep into the dentin tubule, form a biofilm, and resist host defense mechanisms, thereby increasing treatment complexity. Therefore, the key to the treatment of root canal infections is to completely kill the bacteria and prevent secondary ...

Comparative genetics of Enterococcus faecalis intestinal tissue isolates before and after surgery in a rat model of colon anastomosis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We have recently demonstrated that collagenolytic Enterococcus faecalis plays a key and causative role in the pathogenesis of anastomotic leak, an uncommon but potentially lethal complication characterized by disruption of the intestinal wound following ...
