Genetic variability of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium and Enterococcus faecalis isolates from humans, chickens and pigs in Malaysia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) have been reported to be present in humans, chickens, and pigs in Malaysia. In the present study, representative samples of VRE isolated from these populations were examined for similarities and differences by using

Top-Down Genomic Surveillance Approach To Investigate the Genomic Epidemiology and Antibiotic Resistance Patterns of Enterococcus faecium Detected in Cancer Patients in Arkansas

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2023
Control of hospital-associated Enterococcus faecium infection is a strenuous task due to the difficulty of identifying transmission routes and the persistence of this nosocomial pathogen despite the implementation of infection control measures that have ...

Sequence Analysis of Enterococcus faecium Strain 10/96A (VanD4), the Original Vancomycin-Resistant E. faecium Strain in Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 2006
ABSTRACT Enterococcus faecium strain 10/96A (VanD4) was the first vancomycin-resistant enterococcus (VRE) isolated in Brazil. Subsequent Brazilian VRE strains have all had the VanA phenotype. Multilocus sequence typing showed that strain 10/96A was isolated sporadically, has a unique sequence type (ST 281), and was ...

Effect of short-term probiotic Enterococcus faecium SF68 dietary supplementation in overweight and obese cats without comorbidities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Obesity in cats is associated with metabolic abnormalities and increased susceptibility to diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Studies in mouse models and human beings have shown that probiotics can reduce food intake, promote weight loss and improve ...

Antimicrobial activity of Enterococcus faecium FAIR-E 198 against gram-positive pathogens [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Microbiology, 2010
This study investigated the antimicrobial activity of Enterococcus faecium FAIR-E 198 against Bacillus cereus, Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus. Using the critical-dilution method, the bacteriocin produced by E. faecium FAIR-E 198 inhibited all L. monocytogenes strains evaluated (1,600 to 19,200 AU mL(-1)).

Enterococcus faecium Alleviates Gut Barrier Injury in C57BL/6 Mice with Dextran Sulfate Sodium-Induced Ulcerative Colitis

open access: yesGastroenterology Research and Practice, 2021
The involvement of gut microbiota composition in ulcerative colitis is strongly supported by previous research. Growing evidence suggests that probiotic therapy protects against inflammatory bowel disease in animal models and patients.

A newly developed strain of Enterococcus faecium isolated from fresh dairy products to be used as a probiotic in lactating Holstein cows

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2022
The objective of this study was to determine the ability of an isolated strain (EGY_NRC1) or commercial (NCIMB 11181) Enterococcus faecium as a probiotic for lactating cows. Two experiments were conducted: In Experiment 1, the effects of three levels (1,
