Seeing the Hazard: Effects of Visual Communication in Flood Warning Messages

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 19, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Early warning messages (EWMs) are a crisis communication tool to prepare citizens to take action, save lives, and prevent damage in case of an approaching flood. They should be simple, but at the same time sufficient, inform recipients about the magnitude, timing, and possible impacts, and offer recommendations on actions to take.

A Quantitative Assessment of Upper Limb Motor Function Across Disease Stages in Hereditary Transthyretin Amyloidosis

open access: yesJournal of the Peripheral Nervous System, Volume 31, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRv) is a multisystemic disease where early neuropathy signs are challenging to detect conventionally. This study aimed to evaluate hand motor performance in ATTRv using the Hand Test System (HTS) across disease stages and examine correlations with standard measures.

Constitutive and inducible oleoresin defenses share genetic architectures and mechanisms in Pinus taeda

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 5, Page 2966-2987, June 2026.
Summary The oleoresin defense system of loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) protects trees from insects and pathogens and is an important source of renewable biofuels and chemicals, but the genetic basis of oleoresin production is poorly understood. We characterized the genetic architecture of oleoresin flow, resin canal number, stem wood terpene content, and ...

Arbuscular Mycorrhiza Modulates Iron Distribution and Vacuolar Iron Transporter Expression in Tomato, Whereas Iron Limitation Reduces Mycorrhization

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 6, Page 3290-3305, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Plants have evolved highly efficient strategies to maintain iron (Fe) homeostasis. In this study, we investigate the impact of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) symbiosis on the Fe‐deficiency response and ionomic profile of tomato plants, as well as how Fe availability affects AM symbiosis.

Novel interactions between the C5‐C5aR1 Axis and IF1: Implications for kidney mitochondrial physiology and ischemia–reperfusion injury

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 11, June 2026.
Abstract Ischemia‐reperfusion injury (IRI) is a prevalent condition that predominantly afflicts hospitalized patients, inducing acute kidney injury (AKI). In recent years, complement 5 (C5) and its anaphylatoxin receptor C5aR1 have been implicated in driving kidney IRI and loss of function.
