Plant Treatments of EAF Slag for its Use as Construction Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Research, 2013
At the steel plant of Höganäs Sweden AB, different steel grades were produced using an Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF). The slag tapped by the EAF often disintegrated during cooling. Slag fines from the disintegration are difficult to handle and to use as materials in construction.

A Novel Approach to Energy Management in Electric Steelworks

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Feed‐forward neural networks are exploited to estimate electric energy consumptions of the electric arc furnace and ladle furnace processes. The models are used to optimize production schedule so that more energy intensive grades are produced when the cost of energy is lower.

Physicochemical properties of CO2-cured belite-rich cement with electric arc furnace reduction slag as a partial replacement

open access: yesDevelopments in the Built Environment
This study investigates the physicochemical properties of CO2-cured belite-rich cement with electric arc furnace (EAF) reduction slag as a partial replacement at varying weight percentages (0–20%).

Decreasing the Environmental Impact of the Electric Steelmaking Route Through Advanced Modelling Techniques

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Ensemble models are adopted to estimate the sterile content of scraps arriving to the scrap yard. Feed‐forward neural networks are exploited to estimate steel composition and temperature after Ladle furnace. The models are validated on data from two steelworks very satisfactory results and are inherently transferable to other steelworks, as they are ...

Effect of Adding Direct Reduced Iron to EAF on Steelmaking [PDF]

open access: yesTeshugang
The effects of adding different ratios of DRI (direct reduced iron) to Consteel EAF on smelting technical and economic indicators, molten steel cleanliness, and the ingredients of acr furnace final slag were studied by conducting experiments on all scrap

Usage of BOF Slag and Next Generation EAF Slag in the Cement Industry

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Metallurgy
Abstract Two research projects examine the application of slags from today’s and future steel production in the cement industry as reactive binder components. The completed project SlagCEM investigated the recovery of iron from basic oxygen furnace (BOF) slag while simultaneously producing a clinker-like mineral product with good ...

Modeling the Thermal Properties of Hydrogen‐Based Direct Reduced Iron Using Computational Thermodynamics and Machine Learning

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Hydrogen‐based direct reduced iron (H‐DRI) melts differently from scrap and carbon‐bearing DRI. This work combines differential scanning calorimetry experiments, FactSage thermodynamics, and simple composition‐based regression to predict solidus, liquidus, heat capacity, and enthalpy for H‐DRI.

The Application of Hydrochar Composite Briquettes for Sustainable Slag Foaming in the Electric Arc Furnace Process

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Hydrochar‐mill‐scale briquettes with varying C/O molar ratios (0.07–0.90) have been tested at 1650 °C to evaluate their slag foaming performance for electric arc furnace application. All seven briquette recipes developed succeed in promoting slag foaming.

Sustainable concrete production: Partial aggregate replacement with electric arc furnace slag

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials
The pursuit of sustainability in the construction industry has stimulated interest in seeking environmentally friendly alternatives to natural aggregates in concrete production. This study evaluates the behavior of concrete when electric arc furnace (EAF)
