Recycling End‐of‐Life Solid Oxide Cell Interconnect Assemblies into Commercial‐Grade AISI 304 Stainless Steels

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study validates a recycling pathway for converting interconnect assemblies from end‐of‐life SOC stacks into commercial‐grade AISI 304 steels. Using scrap‐based steelmaking operations, austenitic cast steels with <4.0% δ‐ferrite are successfully produced.

Leaching behaviour of co-disposed steel making wastes: effects of aeration on leachate chemistry and vanadium mobilisation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Steelmaking wastes stored in landfill, such as slag and spent refractory liners, are often enriched in toxic trace metals (including V). These may become mobile in highly alkaline leachate generated during weathering.

Computational Fluid Dynamic‐Discrete Element Method Study of Biocarbon Injection in Electric Arc Furnaces Using Shrouding Jet Injectors

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study uses coupled computational fluid dynamic‐discrete element method (CFD–DEM) simulations to investigate biomass particle injection through a shrouded lance in electric arc furnaces (EAFs). It examines how biomass properties, feed rate, and lance design affect particle dispersion and delivery efficiency.

PERFORMANCE OF STEEL SLAG AGGREGATE CONCRETE WITH VARIED WATER- CEMENT RATIO [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Several thousands of tons of electric arc furnace slag (EAF) slag generated in Nigeria are yet to be utilised for construction; perhaps as a result of inadequate technical details for its use.

Slag Substitution as a Cementing Material in Concrete: Mechanical, Physical and Environmental Properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A circular economy is a current tenet that must be implemented in the field of construction. That would imply the study of the possibilities of the use of waste generated, for obtaining materials the used in construction as replacements for the raw ...

Effect of Intrinsic Carbon in Hot Briquetted Iron on Melting and Refining Efficiency under Electric Arc Furnace Conditions for Sustainable Steelmaking with Active Use of H2‐Reduced Iron

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The melting behavior of hot briquetted iron (HBI) is observed and compared with FactSage computing simulation. When using HBI in an electric arc furnace process, a proper design of intrinsic carbon content in HBI, charging ratio of HBI, and addition of lime are proposed to be essential to control the slag volume, maintain slag basicity, and mitigate ...

Mechanical performance and environmental assessment of porous asphalt mixtures produced with EAF steel slags and RAP aggregates

open access: yesConstruction and Building Materials, 2023
Porous asphalt mixtures play a remarkable role in road pavement thanks to their advantages to drain water and reduce noise. To meet the always-increasing environmental needs, new porous asphalt mixtures are being developed with the addition of recycled materials. The present paper investigates the physical, mechanical, and functional characteristics of

Outline of a Washing Treatment to Improve Electric Arc Furnace Slag Environmental Behavior

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study evaluates a water‐washing treatment for electric arc furnace slag to reduce the leaching of hazardous elements (Cr, Ba, Mo, and V), enabling its reuse. The process effectively decreases leachate concentrations. Using the treated slag as a substitute aggregate in concrete reduces greenhouse gases emissions by 42.5% compared to landfilling ...

Measurement the thermal profile of steelmaking ladle with subsequent evaluation the reasons of lining damage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Based on the operational measurement, of which content was to determine ladle thermal profile, there were analysed causes of possible damage of lining in steel ladles by steel breakout through the ladle shell.
