A Thermodynamic‐Kinetic Model for Basic Oxygen Furnace Tapping: Improved Prediction of Phosphorus and Steel‐Slag Evolution

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study develops a thermodynamic–kinetic model for basic oxygen furnace tapping and validates its accuracy under near‐equilibrium and far‐from‐equilibrium initial conditions. Comparison with a reference model demonstrates its broader applicability. The model further reveals the evolution of key steel and slag components, providing new transparency ...

Contributions to predicting contaminant leaching from secondary materials used in roads [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Slags, coal ashes, and other secondary materials can be used in road construction. Both traditional and secondary materials used in roads may contain contaminants that may leach and pollute the groundwater.

The Application of Hydrochar Composite Briquettes for Sustainable Slag Foaming in the Electric Arc Furnace Process

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Hydrochar‐mill‐scale briquettes with varying C/O molar ratios (0.07–0.90) have been tested at 1650 °C to evaluate their slag foaming performance for electric arc furnace application. All seven briquette recipes developed succeed in promoting slag foaming.

Use of steel slag to improve the mechanical properties of subgrades in clayey soils

open access: yesDyna
Large quantities of steel slag are generated annually throughout the world. Some slag from steel manufacturing is reused in the generation of other materials, such as hot mix asphalt aggregate, pipe filling, concrete, among others.

Vibrational Analysis of Steelmaking Ladles: Findings from Industrial and Laboratory Studies for Model Development and Stirring Optimization

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 97, Issue 2, Page 1098-1108, February 2026.
Vibration signals are generated by argon gas injection in molten metal and are measured in both industrial and laboratory ladles. Distinct frequency bands are identified, corresponding to bubble formation and rupture. The results demonstrate that vibration analysis can provide valuable insights into bubble dynamics and support optimization of gas ...

EAF C slag influence on physical and mechanical properties of concrete [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The diploma thesis deals with the influence of the EAF slag C on physical-mechanical properties of concrete. Two concrete mixtures were designed according to the same recipe; however, two different aggregates with the same volume fraction were used.

Low carbon building: Experimental insight on the use of fly ash and glass fibre for making geopolymer concrete [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Due to the environmental impacts resulting from the production of Ordinary Portland cement (OPC), the drive to develop alternative binders that can totally replace OPC is gaining huge consideration in the construction field.

Electrical and Spectroscopic Diagnostics as Real‐Time Metallization Indicators During Hydrogen Plasma Smelting Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, Volume 10, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study explores hydrogen plasma smelting reduction of hematite, revealing how arc current governs plasma stability, metallization kinetics, and electrical behavior. Real‐time electrical and optical diagnostics uncover sharp voltage transitions, plasma–metal interactions, and spectroscopic markers of iron formation, offering new insight into ...
