Ossification of Auricles of External Ears Associated with Acromegaly
Radiology, 1947In 1931, J. Erdheim (4) first showed that the cartilage in acromegaly undergoes changes of both a proliferative and degenerative nature. The examples cited in his study are the cartilages of the ribs and vertebrae. The pathological process consisted of an increase in cartilaginous cells and intercellular substance, leading to a distention of the ...

A frame for the surgical reconstruction of the auricle of the ear
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1967Abstract A classification of auricles was devised in order to select sizes and shapes from the ones studied. A method for the fabrication of a frame for the auricle was developed. The methods used in preparing the wax pattern and the fabrication of the metal mold, as well as for curing and sterilizing the auricle frame are described.

Image of the ear auricle in brain scintigrams
European Journal of Nuclear Medicine, 1977In a prospective study covering a 2-year period, the ear auricle was distinctly imaged in lateral 99mTc-pertechnetate brain scintiphotos/scintiscans in 25 of 2500 patients submitted to routine brain scintigraphy. In 6 patients with initially unremarkable scintiphotos, ear rubbing resulted in scintigraphic ear imaging in the lateral projection ...

Fabrication of postsurgical auricle separator stent in reconstruction of the ear
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 2017A natural appearing ear with appropriate projection from the head remains a great challenge in the reconstruction of the ear. Surgical and prosthetic means have been addressed in the management of patients with microtia, with each carrying its own merits and demerits.

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1984
Eight and possibly nine cases of a major congenital ear anomaly that has been termed the question mark ear have been presented in the course of the last two decades. The consistency of the appearance of the anomaly and the demonstration that it has in several instances been familial makes it clear that a chance event is not involved, but rather that a ...

Ear Reconstruction with a Flap from the Medial Surface of the Auricle
Annals of Plastic Surgery, 1985Correction of defects of the external ear following trauma or partial amputation for cancerous lesions is difficult. A flap from the medial surface of the auricle has been devised to correct the deformity. The flap is either introduced through the cartilaginous framework or passed around the edge of the helical cartilage for reconstruction of the ...

The petrified auricle: Comments on ossification, calcification and exostoses of the external ear
The Laryngoscope, 1985AbstractThe petrified auricle is a clinical entity in which the auricle, in part or total, has become stone‐hard and moves as a rigid unit. This uncommon condition is most often due to ectopic calcification of the auricular cartilage. It may occur as a result of local trauma, in association with various systemic diseases such as Addison's disease ...
