“Do-It-Yourself” Ear Canal Care

Otolaryngologic Clinics of North America, 2023
There are a large variety of over-the-counter home remedies and devices for cerumen impaction available in the United States. It is a challenge for clinicians to maintain awareness of the safety and efficacy of these tools, as they are not considered "medical devices" and frequently have no requirement for demonstrating safety or efficacy. Ear Canal Collapse: A Review

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1971
A decrease in air conduction sensitivity may be produced in some individuals by pressure exerted on the pinna during audiometric testing. The pressure of the earphone against the pinna may result in the partial closure or complete collapse of the external auditory meatus.

Artificial middle ear and ear canal prosthesis

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1980
An artificial middle ear prosthesis may be used to replace the ear structure from the bony ear canal up to the oval window of the vestibule. The artificial middle ear includes a tube to replace at least part of the bony ear canal, an annulus to connect an artificial ear drum to the tube, a complex structure to replace the hammer and anvil of a human ...

External Ear Canal

2009
Diseases of the external ear canal are common and very disturbing. They may cause severe pain as well as hearing loss. Cerumen is the product of both the sebaceous and apocrine glands, which are located in the cartilaginous portion of the ...

An ear canal electrode for electrocochleography

Clinical Physics and Physiological Measurement, 1984
The authors have been carrying out routine extratympanic electrocochleography on patients for the past five years using a small silver/silver chloride surface electrode positioned in the ear canal close to the tympanic membrane. In early recording sessions the electrode was held in position using a conductive bentonite paste (Mason et al. 1980).

Post-operative ear canal volume measurements

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1982
AbstractPost-operative volume determinations have been made of the ear canals of 93 chronic ears operated on radically (removing the bony posterior meatal wall at operation, obliterating the surgical cavity by musculoperiosteal flap, and reconstucting the meatus, by soft-tissue only in 81 ears, or by cortical bone chips and soft tissue in 12 ears), and

Enlarging the ear canal in intact canal wall tympanoplasty

The Laryngoscope, 1972
AbstractIn chronic otitis media, the external meatus and ear canal are often small and tortuous. Gill reported that a third of_250_ears with. congenital atresia had chronic otitis media, often unsuspected. Bellucci has emphasized the role of the Eustachian tube in determining the extent of chronic otitis media, so it follows that the small and tortuous

External ear canal cholesteatoma.

The American journal of otology, 1986
External ear canal cholesteatoma (EECC) is a rare otologic entity. Erosion of the inferior canal wall and accumulation of keratin debris are consistent findings. In the past there had been confusion between EECC and keratosis obturans, and they were thought to represent the same disease process.

Reconstruction of Ear Canal in Surgery for Chronic Ear

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1962
Tympanoplastic procedures have now been practiced for more than 10 years, and most of the surgical methods are already well standardized. Excellent descriptions of different alternatives are given in textbooks on ear surgery by Shambaugh 1 and by Portmann, Portmann, and Claverie.
