Inflammatory middle ear diseases in patients with cystic fibrosis.
Acta oto-laryngologica. Supplementum, 1979111 patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), aged 7 months to 29 years, were examined to detect inflammatory middle ear diseases. 35% had a history of one or more attacks of acute otitis media, an incidence at the same level as in non-CF patients.

The external ear may be afflicted with contact dermatitis to earrings or hearing aid molds, eczema, or sensitization to eardrops or fungus. The middle ear may be plagued with persistent effusion secondary to eustachian tube dysfunction or chronic inflammatory response to allergens.
