Biopolymer Membranes for Osmotic Power Generation in Bionic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review provides an overview of biopolymer‐based osmotic power generation for bionic applications. It uniquely bridges biopolymer membranes, reverse electrodialysis(RED), and bionic applications, addressing a critical research gap by integrating biopolymer membranes with RED technologies for biomedical use.

Zinc‐Coordinated Trienzyme Nanogel Cascade Therapy for Accelerated Post‐Pancreatectomy Cutaneous Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A zinc‐coordinated nanogel assembly is reported that co‐delivers three enzymes to regulate glucose, oxidative stress, and oxygen levels. This system mimics natural enzyme cascades to reprogram the wound environment after pancreatectomy. In a post‐pancreatectomy mouse model, it accelerates healing by reducing infection, promoting blood vessel growth ...

Case report: Cochlear implantation for deafness caused by endolymphatic sac tumors in patients with von Hippel–Lindau syndrome

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
IntroductionEndolymphatic sac tumors (ELSTs) are rare neuroectodermal neoplasms that originate in the endolymphatic sac and duct. They exhibit no specific age or gender predilection, although they are more prevalent in patients with von Hippel–Lindau ...

Diagnostic confusion resulting from CD56 expression by cutaneous myeloid sarcoma

open access: yesRare Tumors, 2009
Myeloid sarcomas are tumor masses composed of aggregates of malignant myeloid precursors in extramedullary sites including the skin. We report a case of myeloid sarcoma in a patient who presented with an ear lobe mass and facial nerve paralysis ...

Solar ultraviolet protection provided by human head hair [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The solar erythemal UV irradiances through human hair and the protection from UV provided by human head hair have been investigated for a solar zenith angle (SZA) range of 17 to 51 degrees for the conditions of a head upright in full sun, a head upright ...

LRRC8A Regulates Outer Hair Cell Volume and Electromotility and is Required for Hearing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies LRRC8A‐dependent volume‐regulated anion channels (VRACs) as essential for cochlear outer hair cells' electromotility and auditory signal amplification. LRRC8A deficiency disrupts cell volume control, impairs auditory sensitivity, and causes deafness, while targeted LRRC8A re‐expression restores auditory function.
