The prognosis of gastric cancer is closely related to the stage of disease at diagnosis. Early gastric cancer, whereby disease is limited to mucosa and submucosa, confers a survival rate of greater than 90% in 5 years in many centres. Gastric cancer is still a major cause of cancer mortality worldwide.

Early diagnosis of hypermucopolysacchariduria

Abstract Urinary excretion of acid mucopolysaccharides was determined in seven children with Hurler's disease and in 1000 apparently normal children using a simple turbidity method. All the seven patients with Hurler's syndrome gave values of mucopolysaccharides which were considerably higher than those obtained in the control groups.
