Early Holocene Extinctions on Crete

Journal of Mediterranean Archaeology, 1992
Archaeological and paleontological studies in the Mediterranean Islands have produced a growing body of data indicating a co-occurrence of endemic island taxa and initial human inhabitants. Many of these Pleistocene species persisted beyond the close of the Pleistocene, only to become extinct during the Holocene.

The early Holocene sea level rise

Quaternary Science Reviews, 2011
The causes, anatomy and consequences of the early Holocene sea level rise (EHSLR) are reviewed. The rise, of ca 60m, took place over most of the Earth as the volume of the oceans increased during deglaciation and is dated at 11,650–7000 cal. BP. The EHSLR was largely driven by meltwater release from decaying ice masses and the break up of coastal ice ...

Early Pleistocene and Holocene bryozoans from Indonesia.

Zootaxa, 2018
This paper describes 40 bryozoan species, comprising one cyclostome and 39 cheilostomes (8 anascan- and 31 ascophoran-grade), obtained from early Pleistocene and Holocene samples from two localities in Indonesia. Five of the cheilostomes are described as new species: Acanthodesia variegata n. sp., Pleurocodonellina javanensis n.

Least Cost Pathway Analysis of obsidian circulation in Early Holocene–Early Middle Holocene Cyprus

Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports, 2019
Abstract Obsidian, a naturally occurring glass and rare resource, appears in the archaeological record of Cyprus at the same time when human populations establish permanent settlements across the island. Geological sources of obsidian do not occur on Cyprus so the material had to be procured elsewhere and then introduced to the eastern Mediterranean ...

Early Holocene Atmospheric CO 2 Concentrations

Science, 1999
Wagner et al . ([1][1]) present a high-resolution record of leaf stomatal index (SI), from which they reconstruct the concentration of atmospheric CO2 in the early Holocene (10,070 to 9,38014C-yr BP, 11,300 to 10,600 cal yr BP) ([1][1], [2][2]).

Tackling the Early Holocene Record in Patagonia

2023
This is an abstract from the "SAA 2023: Individual Abstracts" session, at the 88th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology. The early Holocene archaeological record in Patagonia has always been elusive. It is often recorded as layers within multi-component cave sites where archaeological and natural materials accumulate.

Holocene coccidioidomycosis: Valley Fever in early Holocene bison ( Bison antiquus )

Mycologia, 2006
Early Holocene bison mandibles (Bison antiquus) from Nebraska, ca. 8500 y ago, were examined with a variety of modern histotechnological procedures and staining techniques. A pathological, anatomical diagnosis of moderately severe, locally extensive, mandibular osteomyelitis with intralesional spherules morphologically consistent with fungal pathogens ...

Pleistocene and Early Holocene Glaciations

1984
An overview of the geomorphic evidence of former glacial events is presented here based on a survey of the pertinent literature, evaluation of air photographs and topographic maps (Appendix 1), and my own field observations in the course of the 1970s.

Early to middle Holocene valley glaciations on northernmost Greenland

Quaternary Science Reviews, 2010
Abstract This paper presents the glacial stratigraphy and palaeoenvironmental evolution around Constable Bugt, Johannes V. Jensen Land, located on the north coast of Greenland. This is a land of extreme climate: polar desert conditions and a coast bound by a permanent sea ice cover. Our data covers the period from the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM, 18–22

Late Pleistocene and early Holocene glaciations in Taiwanese mountains

Quaternary International, 2006
Abstract The high mountain range of Taiwan is unglaciated at present, but numerous glacial landforms and sediments in three mountain massifs, the Nanhuta Shan, the Hsueh Shan and the Yushan, support the concept of repeated glaciations of these areas during the Pleistocene and Early Holocene.
