Hydrogel Confinement Strategies for 3D Cell Culture in Microfluidic Systems
Hydrogel confinement structures are key to organizing 3D cell cultures in microfluidic devices. This review classifies five structural strategies (micropillar, phaseguide, porous membrane, stepped‐height, and support‐free) and examines their trade‐offs alongside fabrication methods.

Anti‐Slip Material‐Based Strategies and Approaches
This review highlights the principle mechanisms of slipping at the microscale, linking contact mechanics with a friction behavior model for surface interfaces. Main strategies to develop anti‐slip properties to the surfaces are discussed alongside standardized testing approaches.

The three horsemen of riches: Plague, war and urbanization in early modern Europe [PDF]
How did Europe escape the "Iron Law of Wages?" We construct a simple Malthusian model with two sectors and multiple steady states, and use it to explain why European per capita incomes and urbanization rates increased during the period 1350-1700 ...

Manuscript, Print and the Market for Music in Early Modern Europe
The shifting tensions between two major features of the dissemination of music in the early modern era – between manuscript and printed transmission on the one hand, and between “centre” and “periphery” on the other – are explored in this paper via the ...

Controlling Ultrafast Photonic‐Plasmonic Coupling in a Hybrid Platform for Biosensing Applications
A metal–dielectric hybrid composed of gold nanocaps on opal exhibits a broad near‐infrared plasmonic resonance interacting with the photonic bandgap under ultrafast transient conditions. This coupling can be controlled by varying the excitation wavelength and is responsive to bacterial deposition, opening new opportunities for ultrafast biosensing ...

From Rigid to Soft Robotic Approaches for Neuroendoscopy
Robotic assistance has had minimal impact on deep intraventricular surgeries, where small‐scale, precision, and reduced invasiveness can contribute to improved patient outcomes. Emerging technologies in rigid, soft, and hybrid robotics are reviewed to identify the most promising mechanisms for deep brain navigation in addition to an attempt to identify

A real‐world model of structured animal product restriction practiced for religious reasons reveals the dynamic adaptability of the human gut microbiome to dietary change and uncovers reductions in diversity and rare taxa loss. Integrated microbiome, metabolomic, and proteomic analyses uncover coordinated taxonomic and molecular shifts and identify ...
