Earth Rotation Monitoring

1989
The full description of the Earth rotation in space is given by: the motion of the Earth rotation axis with respect to the Earth shown by polar motion; the motion of the Earth rotation axis in space, defined by lunisolar precession and astronomical nutation (see Chapter 8); the angular position around the Earth rotation axis that is the

Hands-On Earth Rotation

The Physics Teacher, 2002
A Foucault pendulum equipped with a low-cost computer interface is described. It allows one to measure the precession rate of the plane of oscillation due to Earth rotation within a few minutes. A graphic interface (PC tablet) serves as a frictionless two-dimensional position sensor.

Rotation of the Earth

1977
The President opened the meeting and invited R. Anderle to report on polar motion determined by Doppler satellite observations. The speaker said that the standard error in pole positions from 48 hours of Doppler observations was only 7 cm. However, because of uncertainties in the gravity field the standard deviation was 60 cm.

Atmosphere and Earth's rotation

Surveys in Geophysics, 1996
The theoretical aspects of the transfer of angular momentum between atmosphere and Earth are treated with particular emphasis on analytical solutions. This is made possible by the consequent usage of spherical harmonics of low degree and by the development of large-scale atmospheric dynamics in terms of orthogonal wave modes as solutions of Laplace's ...

Global Earth Models and Earth Rotation

1986
In this study we consider the existing Earth models and supply them with an inelastic mantle. Results showing the dispersion effects expressed in terms of frequency dependant Lame parameters are presented. Using Zschau’s inelastic parameters the gravimetric factor increases by about.3 percent.

Earth Rotation (Rotation de la Terre)

1991
The period has been marked by the start of the new International Earth Rotation Service (IERS), which benefits from a tight cooperation between astronomers, geodesists, and specialists in satellite geodesy, as well as meteorologists. The scope of the IERS covers not only the Earth’s rotation per se, but also the conventional terrestrial reference frame,
