Role of Liquid Composition in the Transient Liquid Assisted Growth of Superconducting YBa2Cu3O7‐δ Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The Y supersaturation in the [Ba‐Cu(I/II)‐O] transient liquid composition is the driving force toward YBCO nucleation and growth in TLAG. Tuning the initial (Ba:Cu) molar ratio in the ink composition determines the YBCO epitaxial nucleation through supersaturation control.

Determination of the Radius of the Ring Current in the Earth’s Core According to the Data of the INTERMAGNET Network Observatories

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The geomagnetic dynamo is currently considered the most likely source of the Earth’s main dipole field. However, the radius of the current ring located in the Earth’s core is not reliably known.

Can core-surface flow models be used to improve the forecast of the Earth's main magnetic field? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
[1] Geomagnetic main field models used for navigation are updated every 5 years and contain a forecast of the geomagnetic secular variation for the upcoming epoch. Forecasting secular variation is a difficult task.

Spin and Charge Control of Topological End States in Chiral Graphene Nanoribbons on a 2D Ferromagnet

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral graphene nanoribbons on a ferromagnetic gadolinium‐gold surface alloy display tunable spin and charge states at their termini. Atomic work function variations and exchange fields enabe transitions between singlet, doublet, and triplet configurations.

The characterization of diffusion tensor for mid-latitude ionospheric plasma

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2014
In this study, the relationship between diffusion and the electrical conductivity tensor is investigated by using the real geometry of the Earth’s magnetic field in the Northern Hemisphere for mid-latitudes.

Sensitivity of the Geomagnetic Octupole to a Stably Stratified Layer in the Earth's Core

open access: yes, 2018
Current "Earth-like" numerical dynamo simulations are able to reproduce many characteristics of the observed geomagnetic field. One notable exception is the geomagnetic octupolar component. Here we investigate whether a stably stratified layer at the top

Microscopic Insights into Magnetic Warping and Time‐Reversal Symmetry Breaking in Topological Surface States of Rare‐Earth‐Doped Bi2Te3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic doping of the topological insulator Bi2Te3 with erbium adatoms induces out‐of‐plane magnetism and breaks time‐reversal symmetry, opening a Dirac gap and driving a Fermi surface transition from hexagonal to star‐of‐David geometry. Microscopy, spectroscopy, and magnetic dichroism reveal atomically controlled magnetic interactions that tailor the

A simple mechanism for the reversals of Earth's magnetic field

open access: yes, 2009
We show that a model, recently used to describe all the dynamical regimes of the magnetic field generated by the dynamo effect in the VKS experiment [1], also provides a simple explanation of the reversals of Earth's magnetic field, despite strong ...

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

2D Co‐Mo‐Hydroxide‐Based Multifunctional Material for the Development of H2‐Based Clean Energy Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
2D α‐Co(OH)2 interleaved with Mo species displays an appealing dual functionality for the production and use of green hydrogen.Mo incorporation greatly benefits the electrochemical behaviour in Oxygen Evolution Reaction for H2 production, while the magnetocaloric response at liquid H2 temperature paves the way for alternative cryogenic refrigerants ...
